The New College of Florida Foundation Executive Director is the President’s senior leader of fundraising activities and staff at the New College of Florida Foundation. This leader articulates the College’s case for philanthropic support, builds relationships, leverages networks, cultivates opportunities, obtains significant gifts, stewards the financial resources and manages the Foundation staff, activities and events as required to fulfill the institution’s mission.

The Executive Director leads the New College Foundation, Inc., which provides financial support for New College of Florida, the Honors College of the State of Florida. New College is on the leading edge of higher education reform, where students are taught how to think, not what to think. New College students receive a rigorous liberal arts education in an environment emphasizing free speech, respectful civil discourse and the development of critical thinking skills.

The Executive Director is the leader of a fundraising and advancement program that includes the development of donors aligned with New College’s mission, cultivation of major and planned gifts, appeals to corporate and foundation philanthropy, and fundraising efforts directed at alumni, friends, parents, and the local community. The Foundation provides student scholarships, grants, programs, and support for the College’s NAIA athletics program, and other institutional support for New College.

The Executive Director reports to the Vice President of Advancement (or the CFO and Chief of Staff at New College). The Executive Director provides support for the Chair of the Board and the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The Executive Director is also responsible for leading the Foundation’s staff of development professionals. The Executive Director, along with Foundation Board’s Investment Committee, oversees the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) that manages the College’s endowment.

Examples of Duties

• Manage the review and award of all Foundation-based student scholarships for current and incoming students.
• Work with the VP of Admissions to make presentations at coordinated admission events and at orientation events to promote the Foundation and its purpose to future members.
• Promote the Foundations scholarship impact on students at Admissions recruitment functions to raise the level of awareness and prominence of the Foundation to parents of future students to prepare for future parent donor appeals.
• Working with other NCF leaders to understand program and funding needs to target and identify interested donors and philanthropic organizations.
• Ensure compliance with donor intent and for prior and future donor agreements.
• Developing relationships with and securing substantial gifts from high-net-worth individuals and philanthropic foundations, particular in Manatee and Sarasota county communities.
• Participating in local civic and non-profit organizations’ activities to build greater visibility and support for the College in the community.
• Providing administrative support to the Foundation Board of Directors and its committees.
• Assisting the Board Chair with Board development.
• Managing the Foundation’s major fundraising events.
  • Formulating and adhering to an annual budget for the Foundation.
  • Hiring and supervising the Foundation’s professional and administrative staff.
  • Developing a robust and interactive newly constituted Alumni Committee within the foundation between the College and its alumni.
  • Working with College administration, faculty and staff on initiatives designed to raise the profile of New College in the donor community.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the liberal arts.
• A record of personal success in fundraising.
• Increasing levels of responsibility for management of fundraising activities, volunteers, and staff in an institutional setting.
