Frontend engineering in Indiana has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most Indiana employers look for a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering, though a strong portfolio and relevant certifications are accepted alternatives. Indiana's universities, including Purdue, Indiana University, and IUPUI, offer degree programs that feed directly into the state's technology hiring pipeline.
How much do frontend engineers make in Indiana?
Frontend engineers in Indiana earn a median of about $105,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,850 for the lowest 10% to over $164,650 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire frontend engineers in Indiana?

Indiana's mix of insurance headquarters, healthcare systems, and enterprise software firms creates consistent frontend demand across industries beyond pure technology companies.
Which Indiana cities have the most frontend engineer jobs?
Indianapolis, Evansville, and Carmel have the most frontend engineer openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the bulk of postings because it is home to major insurance and healthcare technology employers, while Fort Wayne and Bloomington benefit from manufacturing and university-adjacent technology operations that maintain in-house product and engineering teams.

Yes, and more than most fields. About 0% of frontend engineer openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. UI development, component library work, and design system contributions are the parts of the role most commonly offered on a fully remote basis by Indiana employers.
How can I get hired as a frontend engineer in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a public portfolio of React or Vue projects and targeting junior or associate frontend developer roles at Indiana's mid-size technology firms and insurance companies. Employers like Salesforce's Indianapolis office and regional healthtech companies run structured new-graduate hiring cycles. Adjacent roles in quality assurance engineering or UI design also open the door, and completing a recognized front-end certification strengthens an application when a degree is still in progress.
