Graduate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a graduate in California?
Becoming a competitive graduate candidate in California starts with completing a bachelor's degree in a field aligned to your target industry, such as business, computer science, engineering, or public health. California's large research universities and state university system are widely recognized by employers here. Many roles in regulated fields such as accounting require passing the California CPA exam administered by the California Board of Accountancy, while engineering roles may require an EIT credential through the California Board for Professional Engineers.
Which companies hire graduates in California?
Employers hiring graduates in California right now include Walgreens, Keck Graduate Institute, and ByteDance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's mix of technology giants, major healthcare systems, and large financial institutions makes it one of the broadest graduate hiring markets in the United States.
Which California cities have the most graduate jobs?
San Jose, Claremont, and San Francisco have the most graduate job openings in California. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area dominate due to the concentration of technology, venture-backed startups, and financial services firms, while Los Angeles draws heavily in media, entertainment, healthcare, and consulting, and San Diego anchors graduate hiring in biotech, defense, and life sciences.
Are there remote graduate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of graduate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how many California graduate roles sit in desk-based functions like analytics, finance, and product. The most consistently remote graduate work tends to be in data, software, and strategy roles, while client-facing, lab-based, or operations positions typically remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a graduate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured new-graduate rotational or associate programs run by California's large employers, including technology companies in the Bay Area, hospital systems such as Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health, and financial institutions with California headquarters. Candidates who build a portfolio of projects, earn a relevant California-recognized credential such as a CPA or EIT, or move laterally from internships, research assistant roles, or part-time analyst positions consistently have the strongest results in California's competitive graduate market.
Where can I find and apply to graduate jobs in California?
