The College may, at its discretion, sponsor employment-based immigration petitions (such as H-1B or permanent residency) on behalf of employees when permitted by law and aligned with institutional priorities and budget.
Sponsorship is contingent on satisfactory continued employment, compliance with applicable federal regulations, availability of institutional resources, and the College’s sole determination of fiscal feasibility.
The College cannot guarantee sponsorship in any case, particularly where newly introduced federal filing fees or wage obligations create financial burdens inconsistent with institutional budget stewardship. The College always reserves the right to defer or decline sponsorship.

Document your interpreter credentials before applying
PERM petitions for ASL interpreters often require proof of RID certification or equivalent. Gather your certification records, transcripts, and any state licensure documentation early so your employer can accurately define the position's minimum requirements.
Target employers with institutional sponsorship infrastructure
Hospitals, universities, and federal agencies sponsor green cards more reliably than freelance platforms. These organizations have HR and legal teams experienced in PERM filings, reducing the risk of procedural errors that delay or derail your case.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter ASL interpreter openings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying where permanent residency pathways are already established rather than negotiating from scratch.
Understand how prevailing wage shapes your offer
DOL requires your employer to pay the prevailing wage for your role and location before certifying the PERM. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level for ASL interpreters in your target city before evaluating any offer.
Negotiate green card sponsorship before accepting the role
Many employers will sponsor but only if you ask explicitly at the offer stage. Confirm the employer is willing to file PERM, fund the I-140, and support adjustment of status before you sign, since backtracking after onboarding is uncommon.
Factor EB-3 priority date backlogs into your timeline
EB-3 petitions from India and China face multi-year backlogs before visa numbers become available. Most other nationalities move faster through the queue. Check the monthly Visa Bulletin from the State Department to model realistic green card timelines.
Green Card American Sign Language Interpreter: Frequently Asked Questions
Do ASL interpreter jobs commonly qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on your credentials. EB-3 covers skilled workers and professionals with a bachelor's degree, which fits most interpreter roles. EB-2 is available to advanced-degree professionals, such as those with a master's in interpretation or linguistics. Educational institutions and healthcare systems are the most consistent sponsors of ASL interpreters in either category.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for ASL interpreters?
H-1B visa is a temporary status subject to an annual lottery and a six-year cap, while EB-2 and EB-3 green cards lead directly to permanent residency. The PERM process requires your employer to conduct a documented recruitment campaign proving no qualified U.S. worker was available, but there is no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The timeline is longer, typically two to four years for most countries, but the outcome is a path to permanent residency, not a countdown clock.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from an ASL interpreter's employer?
The employer must post job advertisements, document all recruitment steps, and certify to DOL that no qualified U.S. worker was displaced. For ASL interpreters, the employer must define minimum requirements that genuinely reflect the job rather than being tailored to one candidate. PERM processing at DOL currently takes several months to over a year depending on whether the application is selected for audit.
How can I find ASL interpreter jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter interpreter job listings by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus your search on organizations that have already demonstrated a willingness to sponsor foreign workers through the full PERM and I-140 process rather than speculating based on job descriptions alone.
Can I keep working as an ASL interpreter while my green card is being processed?
Yes, provided you maintain valid work authorization throughout the process. If you're on H-1B status, your employer can file extensions beyond the six-year cap once your I-140 is approved. After filing your I-485 adjustment of status application, you can also apply for an Employment Authorization Document with USCIS, which allows you to work independently of your H-1B status while you wait for your green card.
