Aviation Green Card Jobs
Aviation jobs in the U.S. span commercial flight operations, air traffic control, aerospace engineering, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul), with strong EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship opportunities through PERM labor certification. FAA credential recognition and prevailing-wage compliance shape how employers structure these petitions.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Aviation
Get your FAA credentials evaluated early
Foreign pilot licenses, A&P mechanic certificates, and air traffic control credentials must be converted or validated by the FAA before most U.S. aviation employers will sponsor you. Start that process before applying so sponsors aren't waiting on you.
Target air carriers with active PERM histories
Regional carriers, cargo operators, and MRO providers file PERM labor certifications far more regularly than charter outfits. Focus your search on employers with documented DOL filing histories, Migrate Mate filters aviation roles by verified green card sponsorship activity.
Understand prevailing wage tiers for your role
Aviation roles range from EB-3 skilled worker (aircraft mechanics) to EB-2 advanced-degree positions (aerospace engineers). Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your role's SOC code and wage level before negotiating an offer, the employer's LCA must match.
Check whether your role needs a Schedule A shortage designation
Certain aviation-adjacent roles, including some physical therapists supporting airline crew health programs, fall under DOL's Schedule A shortage occupations and can bypass the full PERM recruitment process, significantly shortening your green card timeline.
Align your offer letter with PERM recruitment requirements
PERM requires the employer to document that no qualified U.S. workers were available for your specific role. Ensure your offer letter ties your duties to the minimum requirements filed with DOL so USCIS can't reject the I-140 for a mismatch later.
Use O*NET to match your background to specific SOC codes
Aviation covers dozens of O*NET occupations across operations, engineering, and maintenance. Matching your actual duties to the correct SOC code before your employer files ensures the prevailing wage determination reflects your real position, not a broader category.

Find Aviation JobsAviation Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Which aviation roles commonly qualify for EB-2 versus EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Aerospace engineers, avionics systems engineers, and aviation safety analysts typically qualify for EB-2 sponsorship because those roles require an advanced degree or specialized credentials equivalent to one. Aircraft mechanics, line technicians, and commercial pilots with foreign licenses more commonly enter through EB-3 as skilled workers, since the minimum requirement is a bachelor's degree or specific vocational training rather than a graduate credential.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B sponsorship for aviation professionals?
PERM is a permanent residency process with no annual lottery and no cap concerns for most nationalities at the EB-3 level, unlike the H-1B, which is subject to an annual 85,000-cap lottery. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months, followed by I-140 adjudication and adjustment of status. H-1B approval can come faster but only grants temporary status and requires repeated renewals.
Do commercial pilots need special documentation to support a green card petition?
Yes. Your employer's PERM filing must describe the actual minimum requirements for the pilot role, and your FAA Airman Certificate must be on file before the petition moves forward. If you hold a foreign ICAO license, the FAA validation process runs separately and should be completed before your employer begins PERM recruitment to avoid delays at the I-140 stage.
How do I find aviation employers who actively sponsor green cards rather than just temporary work visas?
Not all aviation employers sponsor permanent residency, and many job postings don't specify. Migrate Mate lets you search aviation roles specifically filtered by employers with green card sponsorship history, so you can focus on companies that have already navigated the PERM and I-140 process rather than trying to convince an employer to start from scratch.
Can an aviation employer start my green card process while I'm working on an H-1B?
Yes, and this is a common strategy. Your employer can file the PERM labor certification and the I-140 immigrant petition while you maintain valid H-1B status. Once your I-140 is approved and a visa number is available, you file for adjustment of status or consular processing. H-1B extensions beyond the six-year cap limit are available under AC21 if your I-140 has been approved for at least 365 days.
