Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Aws Engineer
Document your AWS certifications strategically
AWS certifications like Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer strengthen your PERM case by demonstrating specialized credentials beyond a general degree. Compile certification dates, exam scores, and employer letters confirming how each credential applies to your specific job duties.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Cloud infrastructure teams at mid-to-large enterprises file PERM more consistently than startups because they have dedicated immigration counsel. Search DOL disclosure data filtered by SOC code 15-1252 to identify companies with recent AWS Engineer sponsorship activity before applying.
Search green card roles using Migrate Mate
Filter by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship status on Migrate Mate to surface AWS Engineer openings at employers who have already committed to the PERM process, saving you from negotiating sponsorship willingness from scratch.
Clarify the PERM wage level during offer negotiation
PERM requires your offered wage to meet the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job duties. Before signing an offer, verify that your title and responsibilities align with the wage level the employer intends to use via OFLC Wage Search, since a mismatch can trigger an audit.
Align your job duties with O*NET definitions
USCIS and DOL assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Review the O*NET occupation profile for cloud and systems engineers to ensure your job description uses terminology consistent with how the role is officially defined, reducing RFE risk on the I-140.
Track priority dates if you're from India or China
EB-3 priority dates for Indian nationals can be backlogged by years. Filing I-140 approval under EB-2 simultaneously, where your credentials support it, preserves an earlier priority date and gives you options if backlogs shift before your case reaches the front of the queue.
Green Card Aws Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AWS Engineer role typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most AWS Engineer positions qualify for EB-3 as skilled worker roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. EB-2 sponsorship is available when the role requires an advanced degree or the employer can demonstrate the position warrants a master's-level candidate. Some employers file under both categories simultaneously to preserve flexibility on priority dates.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for an AWS Engineer?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status with a three-year initial period and an annual lottery for cap-subject petitions. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship is permanent, has no lottery, and no annual cap at the EB-3 skilled worker level for most countries outside India and China. The PERM process takes longer upfront but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a renewal cycle.
How long does the PERM process take for an AWS Engineer position?
DOL supervised recruitment and PERM certification currently averages around 12 to 18 months before the employer can file the I-140 petition with USCIS. After I-140 approval, adjustment of status wait times depend entirely on your country of birth and the EB-2 or EB-3 priority date backlog. Nationals from most countries outside India and China typically see faster overall timelines.
What should I look for when evaluating an employer's green card sponsorship offer?
Confirm the employer has immigration counsel and an established PERM process rather than treating your case as a first attempt. Ask whether they will file under EB-2, EB-3, or both, and whether they cover attorney fees. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers with a documented history of AWS Engineer sponsorship so you're starting from a stronger negotiating position.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved?
Yes. Under AC21 portability rules, once your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, you can change to a same or similar occupational role without losing your priority date. For AWS Engineers, roles involving cloud architecture, infrastructure management, or DevOps workflows generally satisfy the same or similar standard.
