Align your credentials to PERM's degree requirements
PERM labor certifications for Business Manager roles typically cite a bachelor's degree in business administration or management. If your degree is in an unrelated field, gather evidence that your coursework or professional training is substantially equivalent to the stated requirement.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating salary
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your role and location. Look up the current figure using the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you can confirm any offer meets the legal minimum for PERM certification.
Target employers with active PERM filing histories
Large corporations, hospital systems, and multinationals in finance, consulting, and operations sponsor Business Managers most frequently. Use Migrate Mate to filter companies by their green card sponsorship history so you're applying to employers who've already navigated this process.
Understand how the I-140 priority date affects your timeline
Once your employer files your I-140 petition with USCIS after PERM approval, your priority date is set. For most countries outside India and China, EB-3 Business Manager petitions reach current priority dates within a few years, so tracking the Visa Bulletin matters from day one.
Request an EB-2 classification if your role warrants it
If the Business Manager position requires an advanced degree or you hold an MBA with specialized expertise, ask your employer to file under EB-2 rather than EB-3. EB-2 priority date movement is often faster for nationals of countries outside high-backlog categories.
Prepare for the PERM recruitment audit window
DOL can audit PERM applications for Business Manager roles, requiring employers to produce documentation of their recruitment process. Confirm your employer has retained all job posting records, resumes received, and rejection rationale before USCIS moves to the I-140 stage.
Green Card Business Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Business Manager positions typically qualify under EB-3 when the employer specifies a bachelor's degree requirement, or under EB-2 when the role requires an advanced degree such as an MBA or when you have at least ten years of progressively responsible experience that USCIS recognizes as equivalent. Your employer's job description and your own credentials determine which category applies, and the classification affects your priority date timeline.
How does green card sponsorship for a Business Manager differ from H-1B sponsorship?
Green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa. Unlike H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery for EB-3 Business Manager petitions, and your authorization doesn't expire on a fixed date once you're a permanent resident. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to a year before your employer can even file the I-140 with USCIS, making the total process longer than an H-1B approval.
How do I find Business Manager employers who sponsor green cards?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Business Manager openings by employers with confirmed PERM and green card sponsorship activity. Because many companies don't advertise sponsorship willingness in job postings, filtering by historical DOL filing data surfaces employers who have already committed resources to the process, which dramatically narrows your list to viable sponsorship opportunities.
What does the PERM labor certification process mean for me as a candidate?
PERM requires your employer to test the U.S. labor market before sponsoring you, posting the Business Manager role publicly and documenting that no qualified U.S. worker applied. You don't file PERM yourself, but you can help by ensuring your resume and credentials clearly match the job description exactly as DOL will audit that alignment. Any discrepancy between your qualifications and the approved PERM job duties can complicate your later I-140 filing.
Can I change jobs after my employer starts the green card process?
Once your I-140 is approved by USCIS and your priority date is current or within 180 days of becoming current, you can port your green card case to a new employer in a same or similar Business Manager role under AC21 portability rules. Changing jobs before I-140 approval generally requires restarting the entire PERM process with the new employer, resetting your priority date.
