Verify your RCIS or RCVT credential transfers
PERM requires your employer to document that you meet the minimum job requirements before filing. Confirm your RCIS or RCVT certification is recognized as equivalent to U.S. standards, and gather any credential evaluation letters before your employer starts the audit period.
Check prevailing wages before accepting an offer
Your employer's PERM filing must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the rate for cardiovascular technologists in your target city before negotiating your offer letter.
Target hospital systems with E-Verify enrollment
Employers sponsoring foreign workers for green cards through PERM must be prepared for DOL audits. Hospitals already enrolled in E-Verify have active compliance infrastructure, which signals that their HR teams are familiar with sponsored employment documentation requirements.
Search green-card-sponsoring cath lab employers on Migrate Mate
Identifying which cardiac care employers have active PERM filing history saves weeks of outreach. Migrate Mate surfaces cath lab roles specifically tied to EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship, so you can focus applications on employers already set up for the labor certification process.
Understand the PERM audit risk for specialized cath lab roles
DOL audits PERM applications when job requirements appear tailored to a specific candidate. If your employer lists highly specific equipment experience, such as a single vendor's hemodynamic monitoring system, DOL may request justification, which can add three to six months to your timeline.
File I-140 concurrently if your priority date allows
Once PERM is certified, your employer can file the I-140 immigrant petition immediately. If you're from a country without a visa backlog at EB-3, ask your employer's attorney whether concurrent I-485 filing is available so you can pursue adjustment of status without an additional waiting period.
Green Card Cath Lab Tech: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cath Lab Tech role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Cath Lab Tech positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers in roles requiring at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 applies if the position requires a master's degree or if you have a bachelor's degree plus at least five years of progressive specialized experience in cardiovascular technology. Your employer's job description and your credentials determine which category USCIS will accept.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B for this role?
PERM is a permanent residence pathway, not a temporary work authorization. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no annual lottery and no cap concern at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM requires a DOL-supervised recruitment process that typically takes six to twelve months before the I-140 petition can even be filed, whereas H-1B can authorize work within months of approval.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor a foreign Cath Lab Tech for a green card?
Large hospital systems and academic medical centers with dedicated immigration counsel are the most consistent green card sponsors for cardiovascular technologists. Cardiac catheterization labs within Level I and Level II trauma centers tend to have higher patient volumes and more budget for long-term sponsorship commitments. Use Migrate Mate to search for Cath Lab Tech openings specifically filtered by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history.
Can I change employers during the PERM or I-140 process?
Changing employers before your I-140 is approved restarts the entire PERM process with the new employer. After I-140 approval, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without losing your priority date, provided your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days. Cardiovascular technologist roles at a new hospital would generally qualify as same or similar.
What does the DOL prevailing wage mean for my green card sponsorship as a Cath Lab Tech?
Before filing PERM, your employer must obtain a prevailing wage determination from the OFLC based on your job duties, the SOC code for cardiovascular technologists, and your work location. The certified wage sets the floor for what you must be paid throughout the sponsorship process. You can look up the applicable wage range yourself using the OFLC Wage Search to verify your offered salary meets the requirement before your employer files.
