Green Card Medical Assistant Jobs
Medical Assistant roles at U.S. clinics and hospital systems can qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Employers file with DOL to certify no qualified U.S. workers are available, then petition USCIS for permanent residency. Clinical certification, state-recognized credentials, and hands-on patient care experience all strengthen your sponsorship case.

Verify your credentials before employers do
Certified Medical Assistant credentials from AAMA or AMT carry real weight in PERM documentation. Get your certification officially verified and translated if issued outside the U.S. before any employer starts the labor certification process on your behalf.
Target employer types that routinely sponsor
Large hospital networks, federally qualified health centers, and multi-location urgent care groups file PERM petitions more regularly than small private practices. Focus your search on employers with established HR and legal infrastructure that already understands the EB-3 filing timeline.
Search sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Medical Assistant roles by employers with green card sponsorship history. This narrows your search to organizations that have already navigated PERM and I-140 filings, saving you from employers who intend to sponsor but have never actually done it.
Understand the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage throughout the PERM process. Look up the wage level for your specific region and job duties using the OFLC Wage Search before any salary conversation so you know what the certified floor will be.
Ask about PERM timeline during the offer stage
PERM recruitment and DOL review can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition even begins. Ask directly during the offer process whether the employer has outside immigration counsel and a documented sponsorship policy, not just a verbal commitment.
Use O*NET to match your duties to the right SOC code
PERM petitions are filed under a specific SOC occupation code, and a mismatch between your actual duties and the filed code can delay or sink the case. Cross-check your job description against the O*NET occupation profile for Medical Assistants before the employer submits anything to DOL.
Green Card Medical Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Medical Assistant jobs typically qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Medical Assistant roles generally qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker or professional category, which covers positions requiring at least two years of training or experience. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available, then file an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Clinical certifications like CMA or RMA strengthen the case.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Medical Assistants?
H-1B visa requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation needing a bachelor's degree, which Medical Assistant positions often cannot meet. EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual lottery and targets skilled or semi-skilled roles directly. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM plus I-140 plus adjustment of status can take two to four years, but the result is permanent residency, not a temporary status that must be renewed.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor a Medical Assistant for a green card?
Large health systems, hospital networks, and federally qualified health centers are the most consistent EB-3 sponsors because they have legal teams experienced with PERM filings. Smaller private practices may be willing but often lack the infrastructure to manage a multi-year sponsorship process. You can find employers with documented green card sponsorship history by searching Medical Assistant roles on Migrate Mate.
What role does the PERM labor certification play in a Medical Assistant green card case?
PERM is the mandatory first step. Your employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment process, post the role publicly, and certify that no qualified U.S. worker applied and was available for the position. The certified PERM application then supports the I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS. Any gap between your actual duties and the PERM job description can invalidate the entire filing.
Can foreign-trained Medical Assistants qualify if their certification is from outside the U.S.?
Foreign credentials can qualify, but they must be evaluated and often credentialed against U.S. standards. Some employers require a U.S.-recognized certification such as CMA from AAMA or RMA from AMT before initiating PERM. Getting a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization and, where applicable, sitting for a U.S. certification exam before the job search improves your sponsorship eligibility significantly.
