Document your Epic module certifications early
PERM requires proof of your specific qualifications at the time of filing. Gather your Epic certification records, project documentation, and continuing education transcripts before your employer starts the labor certification process to avoid delays.
Target health systems with established PERM history
Large academic medical centers and integrated health networks sponsor analysts far more consistently than smaller community hospitals. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm an employer has filed labor certifications for IT and clinical informatics roles before accepting an offer.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your prevailing wage
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your Epic Analyst role and location. Run your job title and metro area through OFLC Wage Search before your offer letter is finalized to confirm the wage level matches your actual responsibilities.
Find green card-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to identify health systems and Epic implementation partners with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Filter by role and location to surface employers who have completed PERM filings for informatics and IT positions.
Clarify specialty occupation framing with your hiring manager
USCIS scrutinizes whether Epic Analyst roles genuinely require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Before the I-140 stage, confirm your job description references your degree field directly, not just general IT experience, to strengthen the specialty occupation argument.

Find Epic Applications Analyst JobsEpic Applications Analyst Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Epic Applications Analyst role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Epic Applications Analyst positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in health informatics, computer science, or a related field. EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree or if you have a graduate credential and the employer can justify the elevated requirement. Your employer's immigration counsel determines the correct category based on the actual job duties and your credentials.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status requiring renewal and, for most employers, annual lottery registration. Green card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is a permanent residency pathway with no lottery and no annual cap at the EB-3 level for many countries. The PERM process takes longer upfront, typically 12 to 24 months before an I-140 is even filed, but the result is lawful permanent residency rather than a visa you must continuously extend.
How long does the full EB-3 green card process take for an Epic Analyst?
Plan for two to four years from PERM filing to receiving your green card, assuming your priority date is current. PERM labor certification alone takes 12 to 18 months with USCIS and DOL processing. If your country of birth faces a visa backlog, the wait after I-140 approval can extend significantly. Your priority date locks in when your employer files PERM, so starting the process early is critical.
Where can I find Epic Analyst jobs that offer EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for employers with active employment-based green card sponsorship history for health IT and clinical informatics roles. Rather than filtering generic job postings, you can identify health systems and implementation partners that have completed PERM filings, giving you a concrete signal of sponsorship intent before you apply.
Can my employer start the PERM process while I am on an H-1B?
Yes. Employers regularly file PERM for workers already on H-1B status, and doing so does not affect your current nonimmigrant status. Starting PERM while on H-1B is standard practice because it locks in an earlier priority date. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you file I-485 for adjustment of status or pursue consular processing, depending on where you are located.
