Green Card Facilities Maintenance Technician Jobs
Facilities Maintenance Technician roles qualify for EB-3 skilled worker sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, and some positions reach EB-2 eligibility when advanced credentials are involved. Employers file with DOL and USCIS on your behalf, leading to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization.

Document your trade certifications before applying
PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications match the job's minimum requirements. Gather HVAC, electrical, or plumbing licenses, EPA 608 certifications, and any state journeyman cards before the process starts, gaps discovered mid-filing cause delays.
Target facilities-heavy employers with dedicated HR
Large property management firms, hospital systems, university campuses, and manufacturing plants run ongoing PERM filings because they staff maintenance departments year-round. Smaller operations rarely have the HR infrastructure to manage a multi-year sponsorship process.
Verify the prevailing wage before the offer stage
DOL sets the wage floor for your specific SOC code and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search. If your offered rate falls below the Level I or Level II prevailing wage, your employer's PERM application will be denied regardless of your qualifications.
Use Migrate Mate to find active green card sponsors
Search for Facilities Maintenance Technician roles filtered by EB-3 sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. You'll see which employers have filed PERM applications for this job code, cutting out the guesswork of cold-applying to companies with no sponsorship track record.
Confirm the job duties align with your O*NET profile
DOL cross-checks your job description against the O*NET occupation profile for Facilities Maintenance Technicians. If your employer writes a description that strays significantly from standard duties, the PERM audit risk increases and approval timelines can stretch.
Clarify who covers filing costs before signing an offer
PERM and I-140 fees are legally the employer's obligation under DOL rules. Get written confirmation of who pays attorney fees and any premium processing costs before you accept an offer, so there's no dispute once the filing process begins.
Green Card Facilities Maintenance Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Facilities Maintenance Technician role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Facilities Maintenance Technician positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, since the occupation typically requires two or more years of training or experience rather than an advanced degree. EB-2 eligibility is possible if the specific role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field, but that's uncommon for standard maintenance technician positions.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, which most Facilities Maintenance Technician roles don't meet. PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship has no annual lottery and no specialty occupation requirement, making it the practical path for this job title. The trade-off is timeline: PERM takes longer to complete, but the result is permanent residency rather than a temporary status that requires renewal every few years.
How long does the PERM green card process take for a Facilities Maintenance Technician?
The full process typically spans several years. DOL takes six months to over a year to certify the PERM application, and USCIS then adjudicates the I-140 immigrant petition. For applicants from most countries, visa numbers are immediately available at the EB-3 skilled worker level, meaning adjustment of status can follow relatively quickly. Applicants from India or China face longer waits due to per-country backlogs.
What qualifications does my employer need to include in the PERM job description for this role?
The job requirements in a PERM filing must reflect what is genuinely necessary for the position, not what would make you specifically more competitive. For Facilities Maintenance Technicians, DOL scrutinizes requirements like specific trade licenses or certifications to confirm they're standard for the industry. Requirements that appear tailored to a single candidate, rather than the role, can trigger an audit or denial.
How do I find employers who will sponsor a Facilities Maintenance Technician for a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search for Facilities Maintenance Technician openings filtered by employers with documented PERM and EB-3 sponsorship history. This approach targets companies that have already navigated the process for this job category, rather than applying broadly and hoping a given employer is willing to sponsor.
