Document your government-sector sales credentials early
Federal Account Executive roles typically require proven experience managing public-sector accounts and navigating procurement cycles. Gather performance records, contract awards, and any security clearance documentation before PERM begins, since DOL audits can demand detailed evidence of your specialized qualifications.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Defense contractors, federal IT integrators, and government-focused SaaS firms file PERM petitions regularly for sales roles. Search OFLC disclosure data to confirm a prospective employer has sponsored similar positions before approaching them about long-term sponsorship for a Federal Account Executive role.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring employers
Rather than filtering generic job boards, use Migrate Mate to search specifically for Federal Account Executive openings at employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, saving you from pursuing companies that lack the HR infrastructure or legal counsel to run a PERM case.
Clarify sponsorship timing before accepting an offer
Ask the hiring team whether PERM is initiated immediately or after a performance review period. Many federal-sector employers delay filing six to twelve months post-hire, which directly affects how long you remain on a temporary work status before your priority date is established.
Understand how EB-2 and EB-3 apply to your candidacy
If you hold a master's degree in business, technology, or a related field, you may qualify under EB-2. If your background is primarily a bachelor's degree plus several years of federal sales experience, EB-3 skilled worker is the more common filing category for this role.
Verify your employer's E-Verify enrollment before PERM starts
Federal contractors are often required to use E-Verify, but enrollment status still affects PERM audit risk and I-9 compliance. Confirm your employer is enrolled before the labor certification is filed, since gaps in employment eligibility verification can complicate the DOL review process.
Green Card Federal Account Executive: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Federal Account Executive role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Federal Account Executive positions qualify under EB-3 as a skilled worker role requiring a bachelor's degree plus relevant experience. If the employer can document that the position normally requires a master's degree or its equivalent, EB-2 may apply. The determining factor is how the employer defines the minimum requirements in the PERM job description, not your personal qualifications.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status, typically capped at six years, and subject to annual lottery selection. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level. The PERM process is longer, often 18 to 36 months from labor certification to I-485 adjudication, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for a Federal Account Executive?
Your employer recruits domestically to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. DOL then certifies the position, after which your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Once your priority date becomes current, you file I-485 to adjust status. The job duties described in the PERM filing must match your actual Federal Account Executive responsibilities throughout the process.
Which types of employers sponsor Federal Account Executives for green cards?
Government-focused technology vendors, defense contractors, cybersecurity firms, and federal consulting companies are the most consistent sponsors for this role. These employers maintain immigration legal teams familiar with PERM because they hire internationally across technical and sales functions. Use Migrate Mate to identify which specific employers in the federal sales space have active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship programs before applying.
Can a security clearance affect my green card sponsorship process?
A security clearance is a separate federal adjudication and does not automatically accelerate or delay PERM or USCIS processing. However, some employers will not initiate PERM until you have obtained at least a Secret clearance, since the role may require it from day one. Clarify this sequence with HR before your start date so the sponsorship timeline is agreed upon in writing.
