DESCRIPTION
As a Principal Game Designer at RBKS AI (Ring, Blink, Key, Sidewalk), you will own the design vision for a new, innovative experience that brings AI-powered interactivity and engagement to Ring customers. Working alongside a focused team of product managers, engineers, and scientists, you will conceive and ship entirely new ways for customers to interact with their home security products — making the Ring app and devices easier, smarter, and more delightful to use every day.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, inventive designer who thrives at the intersection of game design and AI-driven product experiences. You bring deep craft, high judgment, and the ability to inspire a cross-functional team around a bold creative vision. The ideal candidate is energized by ambiguity, passionate about designing for mass-market audiences, and excited to apply game design thinking to real-world home security and safety contexts.
Key job responsibilities
-
Lead the definition, design, and delivery of innovative AI-powered interactive experiences within the Ring app and connected device ecosystem
-
Design core engagement loops, onboarding journeys, and habit-forming interaction patterns that make Ring products more intuitive and rewarding for everyday customers
-
Collaborate with applied science and engineering teams to integrate player-facing AI features — personalization, adaptive content, and intelligent context-aware interactions — into the product experience
-
Lead design sprints, prototype reviews, and rapid iteration cycles; use qualitative research and quantitative signals to validate and continuously refine experiences
-
Develop high-quality design documentation — concept papers, systems designs, interaction flows, and feature specs — that serve as the source of truth for cross-functional teams
-
Create buy-in for the design vision both internally and with key partner organizations; champion the customer perspective across product, engineering, marketing, and operations
-
Anticipate bottlenecks, manage trade-offs between customer experience and technical constraints, and keep complex initiatives on track
-
Proactively identify and resolve strategic or creative blockers that may impair the team's ability to meet its vision, schedule, or quality goals
-
Mentor and elevate design craft across the team; help establish best practices for AI-driven interactive design at Amazon
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in a broad range of software design approaches and common UX patterns.
- Experience owning and leading significant projects from concept to deployment
- Experience in process design and documentation
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to establish strong partnerships with demonstrable results
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
- Experience working directly with engineering and science teams on feature development and trade-off decisions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing player-facing AI features such as adaptive content, personalization engines, intelligent recommendations, or dynamic interaction systems
- Experience working with applied science or machine learning teams to ship AI-driven product features at scale
- Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement
- Passion for emergent technologies, home automation, and new paradigms in human-computer interaction

Document your portfolio as credential evidence
USCIS adjudicators assess whether your role meets specialty occupation standards. Organize shipped titles, design documents, and credited work by your name before applying, so your employer can reference them during PERM and I-140 preparation.
Target studios with existing PERM filing history
Studios that have sponsored foreign Game Designers before already have counsel, internal HR workflows, and PERM audit experience. Use Migrate Mate to filter Game Designer roles at employers with active green card sponsorship history, cutting your search time significantly.
Clarify your EB category before accepting an offer
EB-2 requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience in game design. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree. Confirm which category your credentials support before your employer's attorney files, since switching categories restarts the PERM clock.
Understand how PERM job duties affect your daily role
The PERM labor certification locks in a specific job description. If your studio later shifts your responsibilities, for instance moving you from level design to systems design, it can jeopardize your green card petition and may require refiling under a revised description.
Check DOL prevailing wage before evaluating offers
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location throughout the green card process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your Game Designer role before negotiating, so you know the floor your offer must clear.
Ask about priority date protection during studio acquisitions
Game studios are frequently acquired. If your sponsoring employer is bought or merges before your I-485 is approved, your priority date may be preserved under AC21 portability rules, but only if your petition has been approved for 180 days and the new role is in the same occupational classification.
Green Card Game Designer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Game Designer role qualify as a specialty occupation for green card purposes?
Yes, Game Designer positions typically qualify when the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in game design, computer science, interactive media, or a directly related field. The employer must show this degree requirement is standard for the position, not just preferred, throughout the PERM labor certification and I-140 petition process.
How does the green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for Game Designers?
The EB-3 green card has no annual cap at the petition level and results in permanent residency rather than temporary status. Unlike the H-1B lottery, PERM sponsorship is employer-driven, begins with a DOL labor market test, and proceeds to an I-140 petition and then adjustment of status or consular processing. The overall timeline is longer, often two to five years, but the outcome is a permanent green card rather than a renewable visa.
Where can I find Game Designer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Game Designer roles specifically filtered by employers with green card sponsorship history, saving you from manually screening studios that have never filed PERM applications. Standard job boards don't surface this data, so starting with a platform built around sponsorship filtering is more efficient than applying broadly and asking about green cards later in the process.
Can I switch to a different studio while my green card is pending?
You can port your green card petition to a new employer under AC21 portability rules if your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, and the new Game Designer role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Changing studios before those thresholds are met typically requires the new employer to start a fresh PERM filing.
Does my country of birth affect how long green card sponsorship takes as a Game Designer?
Yes. Nationals born in India and China face significantly longer waits due to per-country annual limits on employment-based visas, even after the I-140 is approved. Nationals from most other countries can often reach the front of the EB-3 queue within one to two years of I-140 approval. Your priority date, established when PERM is filed with DOL, determines your place in the queue.
