Candidates with a bachelor's degree in mechanical or construction engineering and documented project leadership experience are well-positioned for employer-sponsored permanent residency.

Match your credentials to PERM requirements
PERM defines the minimum requirements for your role, and your actual credentials must meet but not exceed them. If you hold a master's degree, confirm the employer's job description specifies it, or your application may face a mismatch audit.
Target contractors with federal project history
Mechanical and HVAC contractors holding federal or public-sector contracts often have established PERM filing infrastructure. These employers are more likely to sponsor green cards because compliance and labor certification are already part of their HR workflow.
Verify prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the prevailing wage for HVAC project manager roles in your target city before negotiating. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL-certified level or PERM certification will be denied.
Search for green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter HVAC project manager openings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This cuts the research time of manually cross-referencing PERM disclosure data with job postings.
Get your foreign credentials evaluated early
If your engineering or project management degree was issued outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation before your employer begins PERM recruitment. DOL requires that your qualifications be documented in equivalent U.S. terms at the time of filing.
Clarify who handles I-140 filing after PERM approval
Once PERM is certified, your employer must file the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Confirm in writing whether their immigration counsel covers this step or whether you'll need separate legal support, since delays between PERM and I-140 can affect your priority date.
Green Card Hvac Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Do HVAC project manager roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most HVAC project manager positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree plus relevant experience. Roles at senior or principal levels that specify an advanced degree, or candidates whose background demonstrates substantially above-standard expertise, may qualify under EB-2. The employer's job description and your documented credentials together determine the category, not the job title alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 is permanent and not subject to an annual lottery. H-1B visa approval gives you temporary status and requires renewal every three years, with no guaranteed path to permanency. PERM takes longer upfront, typically one to three years before you can file for adjustment of status, but it eliminates the uncertainty of annual cap limits that affect H-1B holders every fiscal year.
What does the PERM recruitment process mean for HVAC project manager candidates?
Before filing PERM, your employer must run a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign to demonstrate that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. For HVAC project managers, this typically includes job postings, newspaper advertisements, and internal notices. You can't start this process yourself, and your credentials must exactly match the minimum requirements stated in the job posting at the time of recruitment.
How can I find HVAC project manager jobs that sponsor green cards?
Most job postings don't advertise PERM sponsorship upfront, which makes it hard to identify willing employers from job boards alone. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search: it surfaces HVAC project manager roles at employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying to companies that have already committed to the process rather than hoping an employer will consider it.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is approved but before my green card is issued?
Changing employers resets the PERM process because the labor certification is tied to a specific employer and job description. If your I-140 has been approved for more than 180 days and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 may allow you to transfer your petition to a similar HVAC or construction project management role without starting over. You should confirm this with your immigration attorney before resigning.
