iOS Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. INTRODUCTION
It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world’s relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.
THE ROLE
We build native foundations that support seller-facing software across multiple teams. You will set direction for iOS architecture, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience. You can start from an important, unowned problem, prove a direction through hands-on work, and create a program other teams can join. You may begin as the sole expert, but your goal is to create leverage through clear interfaces, documentation, and new technical leaders.
YOU WILL
- Find and frame systemic iOS problems that do not yet have clear ownership.
- Define strategy, architecture, standards, and measures of success across teams and applications.
- Build prototypes, reference implementations, and the critical path needed to prove the direction.
- Lead multi-quarter migrations and foundational initiatives through broad adoption.
- Establish durable practices for quality, testing, observability, release safety, and maintainability.
- Develop senior engineers and create an ownership model that does not depend on you as a permanent bottleneck.
HOW YOU WORK
- You are self-directed and actively gather the context, data, and domain expertise needed to make sound decisions.
- You move independently within your scope and seek alignment when decisions affect other teams or create long-term commitments.
- You use AI tools to investigate and deliver at greater scale. You verify the work and remain accountable for security, reliability, and customer trust.
- You measure success through adoption and seller or customer outcomes, not the production of frameworks or documents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 8+ years in roles where mobile engineering was a primary responsibility, including 4+ years building native iOS products.
- Deep expertise across modern and legacy iOS frameworks, Swift, and Objective-C.
- Experience creating foundational systems, shared frameworks, or developer tooling used across multiple teams.
- A record of leading strategic, multi-quarter initiatives with broad adoption and durable impact.
- Experience connecting platform strategy to customer-facing and multi-tenant SaaS products that support business operations.
- Strong systems thinking, technical communication, mentoring, and organizational influence.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an iOS Engineer
Align your credentials to PERM requirements
PERM requires your foreign degree to match the minimum requirements stated in the job description. Get a credential evaluation confirming your computer science or software engineering degree meets U.S. equivalency before any employer starts the labor certification process.
Document your iOS specialization clearly
USCIS scrutinizes whether the role genuinely requires a specialist. Gather evidence of Swift proficiency, App Store publications, or platform-specific frameworks like SwiftUI and UIKit. These substantiate the specialty occupation basis for your EB-2 or EB-3 petition.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter iOS Engineer roles by employers who have filed PERM applications. Companies that have run the process before understand the timeline and are far less likely to stall your green card mid-filing.
Ask employers about their EB-2 versus EB-3 category strategy
Some employers default to EB-3 because the job description can't support an advanced-degree requirement. Before signing an offer, confirm which category your role is slotted for, since EB-2 may significantly shorten your wait time depending on your country of birth.
Understand how priority dates affect your iOS career plans
Your priority date is set when DOL receives the PERM application, not when you join the company. For nationals of India or China, EB-2 and EB-3 backlogs can span years, so negotiate employment terms that allow you to stay at the sponsoring employer through adjustment of status.
Verify your employer is E-Verify enrolled before PERM starts
DOL's PERM process requires employers to demonstrate good-faith recruitment. Separately, USCIS expects lawful employment throughout. Confirming your employer is enrolled in E-Verify early avoids complications when I-485 adjudicators review your employment history.
Green Card iOS Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an iOS Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most iOS Engineer positions qualify for EB-3 as a skilled worker role requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. EB-2 applies when the job genuinely requires an advanced degree or when the candidate pursues a National Interest Waiver. The employer's job description determines the category, and USCIS reviews whether the stated requirements are consistent with the duties.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for iOS Engineers?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery and a six-year maximum stay. PERM-based green card sponsorship targets permanent residency with no lottery and no cap at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes several months, followed by I-140 adjudication and, for some nationalities, a priority date wait before you can file for adjustment of status.
How long does the green card process typically take for an iOS Engineer?
For most countries other than India and China, the full process from PERM filing to a green card approval runs roughly two to four years when using standard processing. DOL targets a PERM adjudication window of several months, and USCIS I-140 standard processing adds additional time. For Indian and Chinese nationals, EB-2 and EB-3 priority date backlogs can extend the wait significantly longer.
Where can I find iOS Engineer jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter iOS Engineer roles by employers who have a documented PERM filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already run the process rather than guessing whether sponsorship is available. That distinction matters because many job postings say sponsorship is possible without committing to the full PERM and I-140 pathway.
Can I switch iOS Engineering jobs while my green card is pending?
You can change employers after your I-140 is approved and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, as long as the new role is the same or similar occupational classification under AC21 portability rules. Software engineering and iOS development roles generally fall within the same SOC codes, but confirm with an immigration attorney before accepting any new offer while your adjustment of status is pending.
