Green Card Licensed Clinical Social Worker Jobs
Licensed Clinical Social Worker roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. State licensure requirements and the MSW degree make LCSW roles strong candidates for permanent sponsorship.

Verify your MSW meets EB-2 requirements
EB-2 requires an advanced degree tied directly to the role. Your Master of Social Work qualifies, but USCIS will scrutinize whether the specific LCSW position requires that degree, not just prefers it. Document job duties that demand graduate-level clinical training.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Hospital systems, community mental health centers, and federally qualified health centers are the most active LCSW green card sponsors. Search the DOL PERM disclosure data to identify which employers have filed labor certifications for social work occupations in your target state.
Secure your state clinical license before filing
PERM audits for licensed roles often request proof that you already hold the required state license. Obtain your LCSW licensure before your employer begins the labor certification process to avoid audit delays or certification denials.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching for LCSW roles with verified green card sponsorship history saves time and targets employers already familiar with PERM. Migrate Mate filters jobs by sponsorship type, so you can focus on EB-2 and EB-3 openings rather than cold-applying to employers with no filing track record.
Benchmark your prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and geographic area. Look up the Level I through Level IV wage tiers for social workers using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer, since underpaying the prevailing wage is a common PERM denial trigger.
Understand the PERM recruitment window and your role in it
Your employer must run PERM-compliant recruitment for your position before filing, typically over 30 to 180 days. You cannot coach applicants out of the role, but you can ensure your job description accurately reflects the specialized clinical duties that distinguish the position from entry-level openings.
Green Card Licensed Clinical Social Worker: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an LCSW role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most LCSW positions qualify for EB-3 as a skilled worker or professional role requiring a bachelor's degree or higher. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the position genuinely requires a Master of Social Work and your employer can document that requirement in the job description. The distinction matters for priority date waiting times, particularly for nationals from countries with long backlogs.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for social workers?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery cap, while PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The PERM process is longer, typically 18 to 36 months from labor certification to approved I-140, but it eliminates the lottery risk and ties your status to a specific employer only until the I-485 stage.
What role does state licensure play in the PERM process for LCSWs?
Because LCSW licensure is a legal requirement to practice independently in every U.S. state, the DOL expects employers to list it as a job requirement on the PERM application. Auditors frequently request proof that the sponsored worker already meets this requirement. Holding an active LCSW license before your employer files significantly reduces the risk of an audit denial or certification delay.
How do I find LCSW employers who sponsor green cards?
Most general job boards don't filter by green card sponsorship history, making it hard to target employers who have actually gone through PERM before. Migrate Mate indexes jobs specifically by employment-based sponsorship type, so you can search LCSW openings tied to EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship rather than guessing from job postings that say 'will sponsor' without specifics.
What happens to my green card application if I change jobs before the process completes?
Changing employers before your I-140 is approved typically restarts the PERM process from scratch with the new employer. Once your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more and your priority date is current or close to becoming current, AC21 portability may allow you to move to a same or similar role without losing your place in the queue.
