Green Card OB/GYN Jobs
OB/GYN physicians trained abroad can qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship through the EB-2 or EB-3 category. Most hospital and health system employers file PERM labor certification before submitting an I-140 petition, permanently sponsoring you for lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary visa.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in OB/GYN
Verify your credentials match PERM requirements
PERM requires your foreign medical degree to satisfy the minimum requirements stated in the job description. Confirm your credentials align with the role's education requirements before applying, since mismatches at this stage can invalidate the employer's entire labor certification filing.
Target hospital systems with active I-140 history
Academic medical centers and large hospital networks file I-140 petitions regularly and have established immigration counsel on retainer. Prioritize these over private solo or small group practices, which rarely have the infrastructure to manage multi-year PERM sponsorship timelines.
Search green card sponsoring OB/GYN jobs on Migrate Mate
Filter by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 filing history so you're only applying where sponsorship is already established. Migrate Mate surfaces this data by role and employer, removing the guesswork of cold-asking practices whether they sponsor.
Understand EB-2 versus EB-3 category implications
EB-2 requires demonstrating an advanced degree or its equivalent; EB-3 covers professionals with a standard medical degree and board eligibility. Your priority date and country of birth determine which category gives you a faster path to lawful permanent residency.
Negotiate PERM filing into your employment contract
Ask employers to commit to a PERM filing timeline in your offer letter, not just verbally. Without a written commitment, sponsorship can be deferred indefinitely after you start, leaving you dependent on your current visa status while the employer delays filing.
Use OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation
DOL's OFLC Wage Search shows the prevailing wage for OB/GYN roles by geographic area and experience level. Your employer must pay at or above this wage throughout the PERM process, so knowing the number protects you from offers that could stall your certification.
Green Card OB/GYN: Frequently Asked Questions
Do OB/GYN employers routinely sponsor green cards, or is it rare?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and federally qualified health centers routinely sponsor OB/GYNs for employment-based green cards, particularly in underserved areas where recruitment is competitive. Smaller private practices sponsor less frequently because the PERM process requires dedicated legal and HR resources. Targeting employers with existing EB-2 or EB-3 filing history is the most reliable approach.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for OB/GYN physicians?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to annual lottery caps, while EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery. The PERM labor certification process adds 12 to 24 months before the I-140 petition, but once your priority date becomes current, you're on a path to lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status.
What is the PERM labor certification process for OB/GYN roles?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a supervised recruitment campaign demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker was available for the position. DOL reviews the application and, if approved, certifies the job for foreign national sponsorship. The employer then files an I-140 immigrant petition on your behalf. The entire PERM-to-I-140 sequence typically takes 18 to 30 months before visa availability is considered.
How can I find OB/GYN jobs where the employer already sponsors green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you filter OB/GYN positions by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 filing history, so you can focus applications on practices and health systems that have already navigated the sponsorship process. This avoids wasting time on employers who express interest in sponsoring but lack the infrastructure or intent to follow through.
Does my country of birth affect my OB/GYN green card timeline?
Yes. Nationals of India and China face significantly longer priority date backlogs in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories due to per-country annual limits. Nationals from most other countries face far shorter waits. Checking the monthly Visa Bulletin from USCIS tells you where your priority date stands relative to current availability, which directly affects when you can file for adjustment of status.
