Green Card Professional Learning Specialist Jobs
Professional Learning Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers file a PERM labor certification with the DOL, demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available. Districts and ed-tech organizations sponsoring these roles typically require a master's degree in education or instructional design, which supports EB-2 eligibility for advanced-degree professionals.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Professional Learning Specialist
Document your instructional design credentials early
PERM requires your employer to advertise the role at a specific degree level. If your master's degree is in a related field like curriculum studies or organizational learning, get a credential evaluation done before employers post the PERM job order.
Target districts with established HR sponsorship infrastructure
School districts that have sponsored foreign nationals before already have immigration counsel and PERM workflows in place. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to identify education employers with recent labor certification filings in instructional or training roles.
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by sponsorship history
Not every district lists sponsorship willingness in job postings. Migrate Mate lets you search Professional Learning Specialist roles filtered by employers with active EB-2 or EB-3 green card filing history, saving you from applying to dead ends.
Clarify your EB tier before the offer stage
If your role requires a bachelor's degree plus progressive experience, you'll likely file under EB-3. If the employer specifies a master's as the minimum requirement, EB-2 may apply. Get clarity from the employer's immigration attorney before signing an offer letter.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
PERM requires your employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and role. Look up the wage level for your specific job duties using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating, so your offered salary doesn't trigger a prevailing wage deficiency.
Prepare for the PERM recruitment audit window
DOL can audit a PERM application for up to five years. Your employer must retain recruitment records proving no qualified U.S. workers were rejected. Ask HR whether their counsel maintains a compliant recruitment file, since an audit can delay or invalidate your I-140.
Green Card Professional Learning Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Professional Learning Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the minimum requirements. If the role requires a master's degree in education, instructional design, or a related field, EB-2 applies to advanced-degree professionals. If a bachelor's degree plus experience is sufficient, EB-3 is the more common path. The employer's immigration counsel sets the degree requirement in the PERM job order, which locks in the tier.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery and a six-year cap, while EB-2 and EB-3 green cards lead to permanent residency with no lottery. The PERM labor certification process takes longer up front, often 18 to 36 months total from PERM filing through I-485 approval, but the outcome is permanent status rather than a renewable temporary authorization.
Which types of employers sponsor Professional Learning Specialist green cards?
K-12 school districts, higher education institutions, ed-tech companies, and large corporate learning and development departments are the most active sponsors. Employers with dedicated HR teams or in-house immigration counsel tend to have more consistent PERM experience. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers in this role category with confirmed EB-2 or EB-3 filing history before applying.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers mid-process?
If you leave before your I-140 is approved, your PERM filing is tied to that employer and cannot transfer. After I-140 approval and once your I-485 has been pending for 180 days, portability rules allow you to move to a same or similar role with a new employer. Professional Learning Specialist and related instructional positions often qualify as substantially similar under portability.
Can I work on a different visa while waiting for green card approval?
Yes. Many candidates maintain H-1B status while their PERM and I-140 process in parallel. Others work on OPT or a different employer-sponsored visa. The key constraint is that your green card sponsorship must be for a permanent, full-time position. Part-time or contract roles do not qualify for PERM, so confirm your employment structure with USCIS requirements before filing.
