Green Card Project Scheduler Jobs
Project Scheduler roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to test the U.S. labor market before filing your I-140 petition. Construction, defense, and infrastructure firms regularly sponsor foreign scheduling professionals for permanent residency.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules from early planning through execution, commissioning, and closeout using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project (MPP).
- Build logically sound CPM schedules with appropriate work breakdown structures, activity coding, calendars, milestones, constraints discipline, and resource/cost loading where required.
- Support IPA-aligned front-end loading (FEL) and stage-gate reviews by developing phase schedules, evaluating schedule maturity, and confirming alignment between scope definition, execution strategy, risks, and key decision dates.
- Establish schedule baselines, basis of schedule documentation, progress measurement methods, update cycles, and governance procedures in alignment with project controls requirements and AACE recommended practices.
- Perform critical path, float, variance, what-if, and time impact analyses to identify schedule threats and opportunities and recommend mitigation or recovery actions.
- Coordinate schedule inputs with engineering, procurement, construction, contractors, vendors, and operations to produce realistic sequencing and milestone commitments.
- Prepare schedule narratives, dashboards, milestone reports, look-aheads, and management presentations that clearly communicate status, forecast completion dates, risks, and required actions.
- Review schedule quality and integrity, including logic, constraints, progress accuracy, and reasonableness of durations, in support of management decision-making.
- Support change management by assessing the schedule impact of scope changes, delays, and emergent work, and maintaining proper baseline and revision control utilizing schedule change logs.
- Promote standardization, continuous improvement, and lessons learned in scheduling methods, templates, and reporting practices.

Document your scheduling software credentials early
PERM audits frequently target specialty occupation evidence. Gather certifications in Primavera P6, MS Project, or Oracle Unifier before your employer files, since DOL may request proof that your qualifications match the advertised role requirements.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data filtered by SOC code 11-3012 to find construction, engineering, and defense contractors that have filed PERM applications for schedulers. Firms with repeated filings understand the process and are less likely to abandon a sponsorship mid-filing.
Search for green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Project Scheduler openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history, saving you from applying to firms that only offer H-1B visa transfers or won't commit to permanent residency.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 track with your employer
EB-2 requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience in project controls. If your credentials are borderline, confirm which category your employer intends to file under before the PERM recruitment process begins, since switching tracks restarts the clock.
Negotiate PERM recruitment timing into your offer
Employers must complete DOL-mandated recruitment steps before filing PERM. Ask during the offer stage whether they'll initiate the prevailing wage determination request to OFLC within your first 90 days, so the process starts before your H-1B status requires renewal.
Verify your prevailing wage category matches your duties
Use the OFLC Wage Search to check which wage level applies to your specific scheduling duties. A Level I wage on your PERM application signals an entry-level role, which can trigger a USCIS RFE questioning whether the position genuinely requires your advanced credentials.
Green Card Project Scheduler: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Scheduler role qualify as a specialty occupation for green card purposes?
Yes. Project Schedulers are classified under SOC code 11-3012 and O*NET recognizes the occupation as requiring specialized knowledge in engineering, construction management, or a related field. DOL and USCIS both treat the role as a professional occupation eligible for EB-2 or EB-3 classification, provided the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 per year and subject to an annual lottery. PERM-based EB-3 sponsorship has no annual cap on petitions filed, leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status, and is driven entirely by your employer completing DOL labor market testing. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM processing alone averages six to twelve months before your I-140 is even filed.
Which employers commonly sponsor Project Schedulers for green cards?
Federal contractors, large engineering firms, infrastructure developers, and defense primes are the most consistent sponsors. These employers maintain in-house immigration counsel and run scheduling departments large enough to justify repeat PERM filings. You can filter for employers with documented sponsorship history using Migrate Mate, which surfaces Project Scheduler openings tied to companies that have completed the PERM process before.
What documents should I prepare before my employer starts the PERM process?
Gather your official degree transcripts, any scheduling software certifications such as Primavera P6 or Oracle Primavera, and a detailed record of your project control experience organized by project type and dollar value. DOL audits often request evidence that your background directly matches the advertised position, so having documentation ready speeds up your employer's response window if an audit is triggered.
Can I change jobs while my green card application is pending?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without restarting the process. Project Scheduler roles under SOC 11-3012 are closely related to project management and construction management titles, which gives you reasonable portability options, but you should confirm the occupational similarity with an immigration attorney before accepting a new offer.
