Registered Respiratory Therapist Green Card Jobs
Registered Respiratory Therapist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires employers to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. Hospitals and health systems file I-140 petitions after PERM approval, putting you on the path to permanent residency. Active state licensure and NBRC credentials strengthen your sponsorship profile.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Registered Respiratory Therapist
Verify your NBRC credentials before applying
PERM labor certification requires your credentials to match the job description exactly. Confirm your Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from NBRC is current and that your state license matches the state where the sponsoring employer operates before any petition is filed.
Target hospital systems with existing PERM history
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers file PERM applications regularly for clinical roles. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify health systems that have sponsored Respiratory Therapist positions in the past, then prioritize those employers in your job search.
Understand the EB-3 skilled worker category for this role
Most Registered Respiratory Therapist roles qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a specialized degree. Unlike H-1B, EB-3 has no annual lottery, so your petition moves through the PERM and I-140 queue without selection risk, though wait times vary by country of birth.
Use Migrate Mate to find green-card-sponsoring employers
Searching general job boards rarely surfaces which employers actively sponsor green cards for clinical roles. Migrate Mate filters by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus applications on health systems that have completed the PERM process for Respiratory Therapists.
Check prevailing wage requirements before negotiating your offer
DOL requires your offered salary to meet the prevailing wage for your geographic area and experience level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job title and location before accepting an offer, since employers must pay at least that amount throughout the green card process.
Ask employers about their PERM filing timeline upfront
PERM labor certification adds months to the sponsorship process before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition. During the offer stage, ask your prospective employer whether they use in-house immigration counsel or an external firm, and confirm they have experience filing PERM for clinical allied health roles specifically.

Find Registered Respiratory Therapist JobsRegistered Respiratory Therapist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Registered Respiratory Therapist jobs qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Registered Respiratory Therapist positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles requiring at minimum an associate or bachelor's degree plus NBRC certification. Candidates holding a master's degree or advanced credentials in a clinical subspecialty may qualify under EB-2 as advanced-degree professionals, which can mean a shorter PERM processing path in some country backlogs.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Respiratory Therapists?
The H-1B has an annual cap and requires lottery selection, which means no guaranteed path even with a qualifying offer. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM has no annual lottery, so every petition that meets DOL and USCIS requirements moves forward. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification typically adds six to twelve months before the I-140 petition is even filed, and priority date backlogs vary significantly by country of birth.
Which employers sponsor green cards for Registered Respiratory Therapists?
Large hospital networks, academic medical centers, and long-term acute care facilities are the most consistent sponsors for Respiratory Therapist green cards because they have established immigration programs and recurring clinical staffing needs. You can use Migrate Mate to search for employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history specifically for this role, rather than applying broadly and discovering late that a given employer does not sponsor.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for this role?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a supervised recruitment process proving no qualified U.S. worker was available for the position. For clinical roles like Registered Respiratory Therapist, the job requirements in the PERM application must match your actual credentials exactly. DOL audits are more common when job requirements are highly specific, so employers experienced in filing PERM for allied health roles reduce your risk of delays.
Can I work while my EB-3 green card application is pending?
Yes, if you already have valid work authorization such as H-1B status, you can continue working throughout the PERM and I-140 stages. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date becomes current, you can file for adjustment of status and receive an Employment Authorization Document from USCIS, allowing you to continue working even if your underlying visa status changes during the process. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers already familiar with managing concurrent status and green card filings for clinical staff.
