Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Security Engineering Manager
Document your security leadership progression clearly
PERM requires your employer to define a minimum job requirement. If your credentials exceed that baseline, prepare a detailed experience letter mapping each role to specific security domains like threat detection, vulnerability management, or SOC operations to avoid RFE risk.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify companies that have certified PERM applications for security engineering or management roles. Employers with prior PERM approvals understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-filing.
Search green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters specifically for employers sponsoring employment-based green cards. Search by role type and location to surface Security Engineering Manager openings where PERM sponsorship is already part of the hiring plan.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility before accepting offers
If you hold a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of specialized security experience, ask the employer's counsel whether EB-2 applies. For nationals from India or China, EB-2 and EB-3 priority dates diverge significantly, so the category choice directly affects your wait.
Confirm the employer's prevailing wage tier at offer stage
DOL assigns Level I through Level IV prevailing wages for PERM. Security Engineering Manager roles typically certify at Level III or IV. Ask HR which wage level they plan to use; a Level I filing for a senior manager role signals a wage underpayment risk that can delay certification.
Negotiate a PERM filing timeline into your offer letter
USCIS does not require employers to sponsor green cards by any deadline. Get written confirmation of when PERM will be filed, ideally within your first year, so you can track your priority date and plan any future employer changes under AC21 portability rules.
Green Card Security Engineering Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Engineering Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3?
Both categories can apply. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the role, such as computer science, information security, or electrical engineering. EB-2 applies if the position requires an advanced degree or if you can demonstrate substantial specialized experience. Your employer's attorney determines which category best fits the job description they file with PERM.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status with a six-year base limit and an annual lottery for most applicants. PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification and the I-140 petition typically take one to two years before you even reach the green card stage, compared to H-1B status that can begin within months of selection.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved?
Yes, once your I-140 has been approved and your priority date is current or has been pending for 180 days or more, AC21 portability lets you move to a new employer in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Security Engineering Manager roles, this generally means staying within cybersecurity leadership or a closely related security function. Your new employer does not need to restart the PERM process.
Where can I find Security Engineering Manager jobs that already offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by employment-based green card sponsorship, role type, and location to find Security Engineering Manager openings where employers have already committed to PERM sponsorship. This saves significant time compared to screening general job postings where sponsorship terms are unclear or buried in the application process.
How does country of birth affect my green card wait as a Security Engineering Manager?
Country of birth, not citizenship, determines your priority date queue. Nationals born in India face backlogs of a decade or more in both EB-2 and EB-3 due to per-country caps. Nationals from most other countries typically face much shorter waits under the Rest of World category. Filing early and locking in a priority date matters significantly for Indian and Chinese nationals in this role.
