Document your architecture credentials precisely
PERM requires your employer to prove the role genuinely needs your qualifications. Gather transcripts, certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Expert, and project records showing advanced cloud design work before your employer begins labor certification.
Distinguish EB-2 from EB-3 eligibility early
If your Senior Cloud Solutions Architect role requires a master's degree or equivalent, push for EB-2 classification. EB-2 skips the skilled-worker queue and typically moves faster for non-backlogged countries, which affects your practical timeline significantly.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Not every company that hires cloud architects has navigated PERM before. Search Migrate Mate to find employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history in technology and infrastructure roles, narrowing your search to organizations already familiar with the process.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your role and location throughout the PERM process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level III or Level IV wage for your SOC code before negotiating compensation.
Ask directly about concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing
If a visa number is immediately available for your category and country, your employer can file the I-140 petition and your I-485 adjustment of status simultaneously. Confirm with USCIS priority date charts whether concurrent filing applies to your situation before the offer stage.
Align job description language with O*NET standards
PERM audits often scrutinize whether stated job requirements are standard for the occupation. Cross-reference your employer's draft job description against the O*NET profile for cloud architecture roles to ensure minimum requirements aren't inflated beyond industry norms, which can stall certification.

Find Senior Cloud Solutions Architect JobsSenior Cloud Solutions Architect Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Senior Cloud Solutions Architect positions qualify for EB-2 sponsorship if the employer requires a master's degree or a bachelor's degree plus five or more years of progressive experience. Roles that define the minimum as a bachelor's degree with standard experience typically fall under EB-3 as a skilled worker. The classification depends on how the employer drafts the PERM job requirements, not on your personal credentials alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary status with a three-year initial period and an annual cap lottery. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no renewal cycles and no cap concerns at the EB-3 skilled-worker level for most countries outside India and China. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to a year before the I-140 is even filed.
How long does the full EB-2 or EB-3 green card process take for a cloud architect?
For applicants from countries without visa backlogs, the end-to-end process from PERM filing to green card approval typically runs two to three years. PERM itself takes six to twelve months, I-140 adjudication adds another six to twelve months under standard processing, and I-485 adjustment of status adds additional time if a visa number isn't immediately available. Indian and Chinese nationals face significantly longer waits due to per-country annual limits.
Where can I find Senior Cloud Solutions Architect jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for cloud architecture roles where employers have documented EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not spending time applying to companies that have never navigated PERM. Filtering by sponsorship track record is especially useful for senior-level roles where PERM job requirements are more specialized and employer experience with the process matters.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm on H-1B, and what happens if my H-1B expires?
Yes, employers routinely file PERM while you hold H-1B status, and you can continue working as long as your H-1B remains valid. If your I-140 is approved and has been pending for 365 days, you may qualify for H-1B extensions beyond the six-year cap under AC21 portability rules. USCIS governs this extension path, so confirm your I-140 approval date and current status before your sixth year approaches.
