Document your trade certifications before applying
PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications match the job requirements exactly. Gather OSHA certifications, licensed trade credentials, and any project management documentation before you start applying, so nothing stalls your labor certification.
Target general contractors with active PERM filings
Large general contractors and construction management firms sponsor Site Supervisors far more consistently than subcontractors. Focus on companies with ongoing federal, commercial, or infrastructure projects, since sustained workloads give employers a strong business-necessity case for sponsorship.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Site Supervisor openings by employers with verified green card sponsorship history. That upfront filter removes the guesswork of asking about sponsorship mid-interview and connects you directly to PERM-ready hiring pipelines.
Clarify whether the role qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3
If the job description requires only a high school diploma and two years of experience, it files under EB-3 skilled worker. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering can qualify under EB-2, which matters for your priority date if you're from a backlogged country.
Negotiate the PERM filing timeline into your offer
Ask the employer when they plan to begin the PERM process after your start date. Some companies wait 12 to 18 months before filing. Getting that commitment in writing protects you from delays caused by internal HR backlogs or budget cycles.
Use OFLC Wage Search to verify your prevailing wage tier
DOL assigns Site Supervisor wages to one of four prevailing wage levels during PERM review. Check the OFLC Wage Search before your offer letter is finalized to confirm your offered wage meets at least the Level 1 threshold for your work location, or the petition will be rejected.
Green Card Site Supervisor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Site Supervisor role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Site Supervisor positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, since the role typically requires at least two years of specialized construction or trade experience but not necessarily an advanced degree. If your employer structures the role to require a bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering, EB-2 may apply. The classification depends on how DOL reviews the PERM job requirements, not the title alone.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, which is difficult to establish for most Site Supervisor roles. Green card sponsorship through PERM has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status typically take two to four years for workers from most countries, longer for applicants from India or China due to priority date backlogs.
What documentation does my employer need for the PERM labor certification?
Your employer must run a mandatory recruitment campaign showing no qualified U.S. workers were available for the role, post the job through specified channels, and document the results. They'll also need to establish the minimum requirements for the position and verify your qualifications match those requirements exactly. Inconsistencies between your credentials and the listed requirements are one of the most common reasons PERM audits happen.
Where can I find Site Supervisor jobs with confirmed green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Site Supervisor positions filtered specifically by employers with green card sponsorship history, so you're not applying to companies that will turn down sponsorship requests after an offer. Standard job boards don't surface that employer-side data, which means you can spend months in interview processes that go nowhere from a sponsorship standpoint.
Can I change employers after my green card sponsorship has started?
Once your I-140 petition is approved and your priority date is current or within 180 days of final approval, portability rules under AC21 allow you to move to a similar role with a different employer without restarting the process. For Site Supervisors, the new role must be in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification. Changing employers before I-140 approval restarts the PERM process entirely.
