Green Card Software Test Engineer Jobs
Software Test Engineer roles qualify for green card sponsorship under EB-2 and EB-3, with employers filing PERM labor certification through the DOL before submitting an I-140 petition. Quality assurance and test automation skills align well with specialty occupation standards, and demand across software companies keeps PERM filings active in this category.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Software Test Engineer
Document your test automation specialization early
Gather evidence that your role requires a specific engineering degree, not a generalist background. PERM audits often target QA roles because officers may question whether a bachelor's in any field suffices. Project records and job descriptions help.
Search employers using PERM disclosure data
The DOL publishes certified PERM applications, so you can confirm which employers have sponsored Software Test Engineer titles before applying. Filter by SOC code 15-1253 to find companies with active filing histories in your target industry.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility before accepting an offer
EB-2 requires the role to justify an advanced degree or equivalent. Many Software Test Engineer positions file under EB-3 instead. Ask your prospective employer which category they intend to use, since it affects your priority date and wait time.
Find green-card-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Search Software Test Engineer roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers who have filed PERM applications for this job title. You can filter by sponsorship type so you're only reviewing companies already familiar with the EB-2 and EB-3 process.
Confirm the employer's prevailing wage determination matches your offer
PERM requires your offered wage to meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job zone. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify the Level I through Level IV wage bands for Software Test Engineers in your metro area before signing.
Understand concurrent filing once your priority date is current
Once your employer's I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you can file I-485 adjustment of status concurrently if USCIS allows it. That lets you stay and work in the U.S. while permanent residency is adjudicated, without maintaining a separate nonimmigrant status.
Green Card Software Test Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Software Test Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on how the employer defines the position. EB-3 applies when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a related field, which covers most QA and test engineering titles. EB-2 is available when the employer can demonstrate the job genuinely requires an advanced degree or when you qualify under the National Interest Waiver. Your employer's attorney typically determines the category during PERM preparation.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Software Test Engineers?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status with an annual cap and lottery, while PERM is the first step toward permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 petition level for most countries. The PERM process takes longer upfront, often 12 to 24 months through labor certification and I-140 adjudication, but the outcome is a green card rather than a visa requiring periodic renewal and employer dependency.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for this role?
Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment process, post the Software Test Engineer position through channels DOL specifies, document that no qualified U.S. worker applied, and then file ETA Form 9089 with the DOL. The role's requirements in that filing lock in the minimum qualifications USCIS will use later when adjudicating the I-140 petition, so how the employer defines the degree requirement matters significantly.
How do I find Software Test Engineer employers who sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Software Test Engineer roles where employers have a green card sponsorship history. Because not every company that posts QA roles is willing or equipped to run a PERM process, filtering by sponsorship type before applying saves significant time and avoids situations where you discover late in a hiring process that the employer won't file.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved but before I have a green card?
Yes, with conditions. If your I-140 has been approved for at least 180 days and you have a pending I-485, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar occupation without losing your priority date. Software Test Engineer roles generally port well to similar QA or software engineering titles, but you should confirm the new role's SOC code and duties align before making a move.
