Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Technical Program Manager
Frame your credentials for PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to prove the role genuinely needs your specific qualifications. Document how your degree field and years of technical program management experience match the job duties, not just the job title, to avoid a labor certification audit.
Target employers with established immigration programs
Large tech and enterprise companies routinely run PERM filings for Technical Program Managers. Prioritize organizations that already have dedicated immigration counsel and internal HR processes, since PERM sponsorship requires employer resources most startups don't have.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time at this stage. Migrate Mate surfaces Technical Program Manager roles at employers with active green card sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications where sponsorship is already an established practice.
Verify the prevailing wage before your offer stage
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your specific location and role level using the OFLC Wage Search tool. Confirm your offered salary meets or exceeds that figure before accepting an offer, since a wage shortfall blocks PERM certification entirely.
Ask about EB-2 versus EB-3 routing early
If you hold a master's degree in a relevant field, ask your employer's immigration counsel whether EB-2 filing makes sense. EB-2 can mean shorter priority date waits for nationals of countries without severe backlogs, which matters for planning your green card timeline.
Understand the PERM audit triggers for this role
DOL frequently audits PERM applications for Technical Program Manager positions because the role title is broad and requirements vary widely. Ensure your employer's job description uses O*NET-aligned duty language and ties the degree requirement to specific technical functions, not general management.

Find Technical Program Manager JobsTechnical Program Manager Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Program Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Technical Program Manager positions typically qualify for both categories depending on your credentials. EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree and you hold one in a relevant field such as computer science or engineering. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree. Your employer's immigration counsel chooses the category, and PERM labor certification is required under either pathway before USCIS can adjudicate your I-140 petition.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent residency rather than temporary status, and EB-3 filings face no annual lottery. The PERM process requires DOL to certify that no qualified U.S. workers are available for the specific role, which adds three to six months before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition. H-1B sponsorship is faster to initiate but capped annually and does not lead directly to a green card.
What documentation should I prepare before approaching employers about sponsorship?
Gather official transcripts, degree certificates, and a detailed employment history that maps your technical program management work to specific systems, teams, and outcomes. PERM audits for this role often scrutinize whether your stated qualifications are genuinely required, so having documentation that connects your background to the job's technical scope, not just its title, strengthens your employer's labor certification filing.
How can I find Technical Program Manager jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters Technical Program Manager roles by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that have never run a PERM filing. Sponsorship willingness varies significantly even among large tech employers, and targeting companies with established immigration programs significantly reduces the time between job offer and green card filing.
How long does the full green card process take for a Technical Program Manager?
The timeline depends on your nationality and the visa category your employer files under. PERM labor certification typically takes three to six months, followed by I-140 adjudication at USCIS, which runs several months to over a year without premium processing. Nationals of India and China face additional waits due to priority date backlogs in the employment-based categories. You can track current wait times using the USCIS Visa Bulletin published monthly.
