Match your degree to the role
PERM requires your credentials to align with the job's stated requirements. A degree in hospitality management, marketing, or communications strengthens your EB-2 case; a general business degree may require documented specialization in event production or conference management to satisfy DOL scrutiny.
Target employers with established PERM history
Hotels, convention centers, universities, and large corporate event departments file PERM applications more regularly than boutique agencies. These employers have in-house HR processes and legal counsel familiar with DOL prevailing-wage compliance, making sponsorship a less disruptive ask during hiring.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Events Manager roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. Searching by employer type and location before applying saves you from pursuing opportunities where sponsorship isn't part of the hiring process.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must certify your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level for Events Manager positions in your target city before entering salary discussions, so your offer supports a clean PERM filing.
Raise sponsorship intent early in the interview
Waiting until an offer is extended to mention green card sponsorship creates friction. Asking during the second round whether the employer has sponsored workers through PERM before filters out non-starters and signals that you've done your research on their hiring process.
Understand that PERM filing begins at a fixed job description
Once your employer files the PERM application, your job duties, title, and work location are locked in. If your role evolves significantly before USCIS approves your I-140, the employer may need to restart the process, so confirm stability in your responsibilities before filing begins.
Green Card Events Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Events Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Events Manager positions typically qualify for EB-3 sponsorship when the role requires a bachelor's degree and relevant experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available if the employer specifies an advanced degree or if you have a bachelor's degree plus at least five years of progressive experience in event management. The job description filed with DOL under PERM must reflect whichever requirement your employer uses.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for an Events Manager?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa capped at 85,000 per year and subject to a lottery, while EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual cap concerns for most countries and leads to permanent residency. The PERM process typically takes 12 to 24 months from labor certification through I-140 approval, but the outcome is a path to lawful permanent residence rather than a fixed-term status requiring repeated renewal.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for this role?
Your employer must conduct DOL-prescribed recruitment to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available for the Events Manager position. This includes job postings, internal notices, and documentation of every applicant reviewed. DOL then certifies the application, after which your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You can file for adjustment of status once your priority date is current.
How do I find Events Manager jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Most job postings don't advertise green card sponsorship upfront, which makes filtering by employer history the most efficient approach. Migrate Mate lets you search Events Manager roles specifically by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, so you're targeting opportunities where PERM is a realistic part of the hiring conversation rather than an afterthought.
Can I switch to a different employer after my PERM is filed?
Changing employers after PERM is filed but before your I-140 is approved generally requires restarting the entire labor certification process with the new employer. Once your I-140 has been approved for more than 180 days, AC21 portability rules allow you to move to a similar role without losing your priority date, provided your new position is in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification.
