Match your degree to the subject you teach
PERM requires the employer to certify your position demands a specific degree. A credential in mathematics supports a math tutoring role; a general education degree may not satisfy specialty requirements for STEM or language tutoring positions.
Target tutoring companies with established HR infrastructure
Franchised tutoring centers and national test-prep firms handle PERM filings far more consistently than solo tutoring practices. Look for employers with dedicated HR or legal teams who have filed labor certifications for instructional roles before.
Search green-card-sponsoring tutoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter tutoring and educational support roles by employers with active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying to organizations already familiar with the PERM and I-140 process.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility before accepting an offer
If the role requires only a bachelor's degree, the employer will likely file under EB-3. Candidates with a master's degree or documented equivalent experience may qualify for EB-2, which can affect your priority date and overall timeline.
Request the prevailing wage determination early in negotiations
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the PERM prevailing wage for your tutoring role and location. Use OFLC Wage Search to look up the applicable wage level before salary discussions so you understand the floor the employer must meet.
Document specialized certifications before the PERM recruitment phase
Credentials like subject-matter certifications, foreign academic transcripts, or teaching licenses support your qualification for the role. Gather official translations and credential evaluations now, since PERM audit responses require documentation sent to DOL within 30 days.

Find Tutor JobsTutor Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a tutoring job qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Tutoring roles that require a bachelor's degree in a specific subject area, such as mathematics, science, or a foreign language, typically qualify under EB-3 for professionals. If the position requires an advanced degree or you have equivalent specialized credentials, EB-2 may apply. The employer sponsors you through PERM labor certification followed by an I-140 petition filed with USCIS.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for tutors?
Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status leads to permanent residency with no renewal requirement. H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant visa subject to an annual lottery cap. EB-3 green card petitions have no lottery, and for many nationalities the priority date wait is manageable. The overall PERM-to-green-card process takes longer than an H-1B approval, often two or more years, but the outcome is permanent status.
What does the PERM process look like for a tutoring employer?
The employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the tutoring role. This includes job postings, newspaper ads, and internal notices over a defined period. DOL then certifies the labor condition, after which the employer files an I-140 with USCIS on your behalf. The entire PERM stage alone typically takes six months to over a year.
How do I find tutoring employers who will sponsor a green card?
Search on Migrate Mate, which lets you filter tutoring and education roles by employers with verified EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. Franchised learning centers, national test-prep companies, and university tutoring programs are the most consistent green card sponsors in this field, as they have the HR capacity to manage multi-year PERM filings.
Does the location of a tutoring job affect the PERM prevailing wage requirement?
Yes. DOL sets prevailing wages by occupation and geographic area, so a tutoring role in San Francisco carries a higher minimum wage floor than the same role in a lower cost-of-living market. You can check applicable wage levels using OFLC Wage Search before your employer submits the PERM application. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure throughout the sponsorship process.
