Green Card Welding Engineer Jobs
Welding Engineer roles qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3, depending on your degree level and credentials. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL before submitting the I-140 petition, putting you on the path to lawful permanent residency. Sponsorship is available across manufacturing, defense, aerospace, and energy sectors.

INTRODUCTION
At Path Robotics, we’re building the future of embodied intelligence. Our AI-driven systems enable robots to adapt, learn, and perform in the real world closing the skilled labor gap and transforming industries. We go beyond traditional methods, combining perception, reasoning, and control to deliver field-ready AI that is risk-aware, reliable, and continuously improving through real-world use. Big, hard problems are our everyday work, and our team of intelligent, humble, and driven people make the impossible possible together. We are looking for a Welding Engineer who will work side-by-side with a team of welding engineers to develop an autonomous robotic welding system capable of automatically generating custom motion plans and weld parameters for any part that it sees. You will also support teams with welding experiments, generating the data that propels our technology forward. You will join a team of dedicated, supportive, and enthusiastic people to help create the future of manufacturing.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Run weld parameter selection experiments to identify a range of welding parameters (voltage, wire speed, travel speed) that can be used for new customer applications
Partner with robotics engineers to develop a set of rules for how to move the workpiece and robot end-effector to automate trajectory generation
Perform robotic welding experiments to test other systems in development including sensors and inspection systems, path planning and welding strategies, and new hardware
Work with our hardware team to fabricate test coupons for application feasibility testing and other in-house experiments
30%-50% travel required, in which you will be interfacing and working directly with customers.
Operate a state-of the art AI-powered robotic welding cell
Manually weld coupons and other test parts when needed
Use powered shop tools to cut and etch weld samples
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience developing robotic welding procedures in an industrial environment
Proficient in industrial robotics including Yaskawa, ABB, Kuka, or Fanuc platforms
Background in fusion-based weld parameter development for carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Proficient with manual welding processes including GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW
Understand weld symbology and print interpretation
Experience with Design of Experiment (DoE) principles
* Passionate about what you do and enjoy working in a collaborative environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Daily free lunch to keep you fueled and connected with the team
Flexible PTO so you can take the time you need, when you need it
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
6 weeks fully paid parental leave, plus an additional 6–8 weeks for birthing parents (12–14 weeks total)
401(k) retirement plan through Empower
Generous employee referral bonuses—help us grow our team!
WHO WE ARE

Verify your credential equivalency before applying
A three-year bachelor's degree in metallurgical, mechanical, or materials engineering from outside the U.S. may need a credential evaluation to satisfy EB-2 or EB-3 degree requirements. Get a NACES-member evaluation completed before your first employer conversation.
Target employers with active PERM filing histories
Manufacturing plants, defense contractors, and aerospace OEMs file PERM applications regularly for Welding Engineers. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to identify employers who have sponsored this occupation before, not just those who mention it in job postings.
Search green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Welding Engineer roles by employers with employment-based sponsorship history, saving you from applying to postings that won't lead to a green card. Start your search there to focus your effort on verified sponsoring employers.
Understand how the prevailing wage shapes your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your Welding Engineer role and location before PERM can be filed. Look up the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search so you can evaluate any offer against the PERM threshold.
Ask about PERM timeline before accepting an offer
PERM recruitment and audit risk can add six to eighteen months before your I-140 is even filed. Ask hiring managers directly whether they have in-house immigration counsel and whether they've sponsored Welding Engineers through PERM before.
Align your O*NET profile to your actual job duties
The PERM application must describe duties matching the O*NET Welding Engineer occupation profile. If your role involves non-standard duties like robotic welding system design or NDT oversight, work with your employer's counsel to document that scope accurately from day one.
Green Card Welding Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Welding Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Welding Engineer positions typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers when a bachelor's degree in engineering is required, or under EB-2 when the role requires an advanced degree or the candidate holds strong specialized credentials. Your employer determines the classification based on the actual minimum requirements of the position, not your personal qualifications above that threshold.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Welding Engineers?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, subject to an annual lottery, and tied to a specific employer. A green card through PERM and I-140 is permanent, has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and eventually gives you unrestricted work authorization. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to eighteen months before the I-140 is filed, making the overall process significantly longer than an H-1B transfer.
What does the PERM process look like for a Welding Engineer position?
Your employer must first conduct a supervised DOL recruitment campaign to show no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. Once that recruitment window closes, the PERM application is submitted to DOL for certification. If certified, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You then apply for adjustment of status or go through consular processing, depending on your current immigration status.
How do I find Welding Engineer jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Not every Welding Engineer posting mentions green card sponsorship, and many employers only sponsor candidates they've already interviewed. Migrate Mate lets you filter roles by employers with documented employment-based sponsorship history, so you can prioritize applications to companies that have actually filed PERM applications for engineering roles rather than guessing from job description language.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is approved but before I get my green card?
Once your I-140 is approved and you've been in adjustment-of-status proceedings for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change to a same or similar Welding Engineer role without losing your place in the queue. The new role must be in a substantially similar occupational classification. Changing employers before I-140 approval generally requires restarting the PERM process entirely.
