Align your degree to ABM job requirements
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the role. A marketing, communications, or business degree maps cleanly to ABM Specialist duties. If your degree is in an adjacent field, gather coursework transcripts showing demand-generation or campaign strategy coursework.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify which companies have filed Labor Condition Applications for marketing roles. Employers who have certified LCAs before are already familiar with the H-1B process and less likely to back out after an offer.
Search ABM roles on Migrate Mate by sponsorship history
Migrate Mate filters Account Based Marketing Specialist jobs by verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you're only seeing employers who have filed for this role before. That narrows your search to companies where sponsorship is a real, practiced option.
Clarify the LCA wage level before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Ask the recruiter which wage level they intend to file at. Level I covers entry-level ABM roles; Level III reflects senior specialist experience.
Document your ABM tool proficiency for the petition
USCIS specialty occupation cases are stronger when the job requires specialized knowledge. Compile evidence of your expertise with platforms like Demandbase, Terminus, or Salesforce ABM modules, since these demonstrate the technical specificity that supports H-1B classification.
Negotiate your start date around the cap-gap window
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, your cap-gap protection extends your authorization through September 30 if USCIS receives your H-1B petition before your OPT expires. Confirm your employer files by April 1 to preserve continuous work authorization.
H-1B Visa Account Based Marketing Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Account Based Marketing Specialist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies ABM Specialist positions as specialty occupations when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, business, communications, or a directly related field. Job postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required can weaken the petition, so confirm your employer's job description uses mandatory degree language before filing.
Which industries most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for ABM Specialist roles?
B2B SaaS companies, enterprise software firms, cybersecurity vendors, and professional services organizations account for the majority of H-1B LCA filings for ABM roles. These employers run structured demand-generation programs that require the specialized skills ABM Specialists bring, making the specialty occupation argument easier to support with USCIS.
How do I find Account Based Marketing Specialist jobs where employers will actually sponsor an H-1B?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Account Based Marketing Specialist roles filtered by verified H-1B sponsorship history drawn from DOL LCA disclosure data, so you're not guessing about employer willingness. That saves you from applying to companies that list sponsorship as possible but have never filed a petition.
What happens to my H-1B status if I change employers in an ABM role?
You can transfer your H-1B to a new employer using H-1B portability under AC21, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days and the new ABM Specialist role is in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification. Your new employer must file a new I-129 petition, and you can start working as soon as USCIS receives it.
Can my employer use O*NET to support the specialty occupation classification for an ABM Specialist?
Yes. O*NET classifies marketing specialist roles and documents the typical education requirements, knowledge domains, and technical skill sets associated with the occupation. Employers and immigration attorneys often reference O*NET in the H-1B petition to establish that the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree, which is a core element of the specialty occupation standard.
