Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to the Account Coordinator role. A degree in communications, marketing, or business administration is the strongest fit. An unrelated degree raises RFE risk, so document the connection clearly before applying.
Search employer LCA filings on Migrate Mate
Filter Account Coordinator roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. This shows you which companies have already certified wages and filed for this job title, not just which ones claim to sponsor.
Target agencies over brand-side marketing teams
PR agencies, media buying firms, and integrated marketing agencies file H-1B petitions for Account Coordinators far more consistently than in-house brand teams. Agency structures normalize visa sponsorship because staff turnover and international hiring are part of their operating model.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I or Level II prevailing wage for Account Coordinator in your metro area before salary discussions. Your employer's LCA must certify at least that wage, so walking in informed prevents offer mismatches that stall filing.
Request cap-subject filing before April 1st deadline
H-1B cap registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Confirm with your employer at the offer stage that they'll register you in time. Delays past the registration window mean waiting a full year for the next lottery cycle.
Review O*NET to strengthen your specialty occupation case
Pull the Account Coordinator occupation profile from O*NET to identify the standard education and skills requirements listed for the role. Including this in your petition documentation helps establish that a bachelor's degree is normally required for the position.
H-1B Visa Account Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Account Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS evaluates whether a bachelor's degree in a specific field is normally required for the role. Account Coordinator positions at agencies or firms that require a degree in communications, marketing, or business administration typically meet the standard. Roles that accept any degree or treat education as optional are more likely to receive an RFE.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for Account Coordinator roles?
PR agencies, digital marketing agencies, media buying firms, and integrated communications companies file H-1B petitions for Account Coordinators with the most regularity. These employers are accustomed to international hires and have internal processes for LCA filings. You can find employers with verified H-1B filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Account Coordinator job offers?
Before your employer files an LCA with DOL, they must certify they'll pay at least the prevailing wage for the Account Coordinator title in your work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the applicable wage level before you accept an offer. If the salary offered falls below the prevailing wage, the LCA can't be certified and the H-1B petition can't proceed.
Can I switch from OPT to H-1B status while working as an Account Coordinator?
Yes, your employer files an H-1B cap-subject petition on your behalf during the March registration window. If selected in the lottery, your H-1B status begins October 1. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have a timely filed petition, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization automatically through September 30.
What should I do if my degree field doesn't exactly match the Account Coordinator job description?
Document the connection between your coursework and the role's core duties in your petition materials. USCIS allows a degree in a closely related field rather than an exact match. A communications or liberal arts degree can qualify if the job duties clearly require that academic background. An immigration attorney can help frame the specialty occupation argument if your degree field is borderline.
