H-1B Visa Application Consultant Jobs
Application Consultant roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or business administration. Many consulting-focused employers file H-1B petitions annually, making this one of the more accessible paths to employer sponsorship in enterprise software and IT services.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Application Consultant
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to Application Consultant duties. A computer science or information systems degree is a strong match; a general business degree may require supplemental documentation linking your coursework to the specific software domain.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Application Consultant roles by employers who have certified Labor Condition Applications for this occupation. Active LCA history signals a sponsor already familiar with the H-1B process for your exact role type.
Confirm the role title maps to your SOC code
DOL certifies LCAs by Standard Occupational Classification code. Ask the recruiter which SOC code the employer is using for the role. Mismatches between your duties and the SOC code are a common source of RFEs during adjudication.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating compensation
Look up the wage level for your occupation and metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before you discuss salary. Your employer must pay at least the prevailing wage on the certified LCA, so knowing Level I through Level IV thresholds gives you a real floor for negotiation.
Clarify project-based travel terms before filing
Application Consultant roles often require on-site client deployments. USCIS scrutinizes petitions where the worksite differs from the employer's address. Confirm your employer will file an amended H-1B or itinerary letter when extended assignments move you to a new client location.
Request premium processing for client start-date commitments
Consulting project timelines rarely accommodate standard USCIS processing windows. Ask your employer to file with premium processing so adjudication completes within 15 business days, protecting your ability to meet a client go-live date tied to your start.

Find Application Consultant JobsApplication Consultant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Consultant role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or business administration. USCIS looks at both the employer's job description and your actual degree. If your degree is in a tangential field, a credential evaluation or supporting documentation from the employer linking your coursework to the role can strengthen the petition.
How do I find employers who regularly sponsor H-1B visas for Application Consultant positions?
Search Migrate Mate for Application Consultant roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B filing history. DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data shows which companies have certified LCAs for this occupation code, so you're targeting employers who have already navigated the process for your specific role type rather than guessing at sponsorship willingness.
Can my employer file an H-1B petition if I'll be working at client sites rather than their own office?
Yes, but the employer must document the worksite on the LCA and, for extended client assignments, may need to file an amended petition if the location changes materially. USCIS requires third-party worksite attestations in some cases. Confirm with your employer before accepting a role that involves long-term on-site client deployments in different metro areas.
What happens to my H-1B status if a consulting project ends and I'm between client assignments?
You remain in valid H-1B status as long as your employer-employee relationship continues and you're being paid the LCA wage. A gap between client projects doesn't automatically affect your status, but your employer must maintain the employment relationship and prevailing wage obligation throughout the approved petition period.
Does the O*NET occupation profile for Application Consultant support the specialty occupation argument?
O*NET classifies roles similar to Application Consultant under Job Zone 4, which requires substantial preparation including a bachelor's degree. Including the O*NET job zone classification in your employer's support letter reinforces the specialty occupation argument by demonstrating that the occupation itself, not just this employer's preference, typically requires a relevant degree.
