Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Business Consultant
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the consulting work you'll perform. A general business or management degree typically qualifies, but a degree in an unrelated field can trigger a Request for Evidence.
Search LCA filings by consulting role
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Labor Condition Applications filed under SOC codes for management analysts and business consultants. This shows which employers actively sponsor this role and what wage levels they've certified.
Target employers with H-1B filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Consultant jobs by employers with verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you're applying to companies that have already navigated the filing process for this role rather than starting that conversation from scratch.
Clarify project-based work before accepting an offer
Consulting roles often involve client sites. Your H-1B petition must cover every worksite listed in the LCA. Get written confirmation from your employer that they'll file amended LCAs and update USCIS if your client assignments change locations.
Document billable hours and client deliverables as evidence
When your employer prepares the I-129 petition, contemporaneous records of consulting engagements, project scopes, and client contracts strengthen the specialty occupation argument. Start organizing these documents as soon as you receive an offer.

Find Business Consultant JobsBusiness Consultant H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, management, finance, or a directly related discipline. USCIS scrutinizes consulting titles more closely than engineering or IT roles, so employers need to document that the duties require specialized theoretical knowledge, not just general business experience.
How do I find Business Consultant jobs at employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Browse Business Consultant roles on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that may decline to sponsor, so your applications go to employers who have already committed to the filing process for this role type.
Can a consulting firm sponsor my H-1B if I'll be placed at client sites?
Yes, but the employer must file a separate Labor Condition Application for each worksite location where you'll perform work. USCIS requires that the LCA and I-129 petition reflect your actual place of employment. If your assignments shift to new client locations, your employer may need to file an amended petition, which affects your timeline and stability.
What happens to my H-1B if my consulting contract ends or I'm between projects?
Your H-1B status is tied to your employer, not your client assignment. If your employment continues and your employer keeps you on payroll, your status remains valid during bench periods. USCIS does not require continuous billable work, but your employer must maintain the employer-employee relationship and pay the prevailing wage certified on the LCA.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Business Consultant H-1B sponsorship?
Your employer must certify through the LCA that your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. You can check current prevailing wage levels using the OFLC Wage Search. Wage Level I applies to entry-level roles and Level IV to senior positions, so the specific duties in your job description determine which level applies to your petition.
