H-1B Visa Project Assistant Jobs
Project Assistant roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, project management, or engineering. Employers file an LCA with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery registration window matters.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Project Assistant
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to the Project Assistant duties in your offer letter. A business administration or engineering degree works; a general arts degree may trigger an RFE. Check the O*NET profile for this role before applying.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter Project Assistant roles by employers who have filed LCAs for this occupation code. Past filing history signals that a company understands the H-1B process and has legal infrastructure in place.
Request an offer letter before April registration
H-1B registration opens in March. Your employer needs a signed offer letter to submit your registration by the deadline. Start your Project Assistant job search by January so HR has time to get approvals internally before the window opens.
Confirm your employer is E-Verify enrolled
H-1B employers must file an LCA with DOL certifying they'll pay the prevailing wage. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for Project Assistant roles in your target city before you negotiate, so you know what DOL requires your employer to offer.
Document project management credentials before filing
If your Project Assistant role involves coordinating schedules, budgets, or vendor contracts, gather any PMP coursework, Agile certifications, or portfolio samples now. USCIS may issue an RFE asking for evidence that the role genuinely requires a degree-level specialist.
Understand cap-exempt employer options as a fallback
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government-related entities are exempt from the 85,000-slot cap. Project Assistant roles at these employers can be filed any time of year, so they're a practical backup if you miss the lottery.
H-1B Visa Project Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. USCIS approves H-1B petitions for Project Assistant positions when the job description requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like business administration, project management, or engineering. Generic coordinator duties with no degree requirement won't qualify. Ask the employer to review the job description against specialty occupation criteria before you apply.
How do I find Project Assistant employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate shows Project Assistant listings filtered by employers with verified LCA filing history, so you can see which companies have already gone through the DOL and USCIS process for this type of role. That's a faster signal than asking HR cold, since not every recruiter knows their company's sponsorship track record for mid-level coordination roles.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Project Assistant contract ends early?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new H-1B sponsor, change status, or depart the U.S. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period expires. If you're on a fixed-term project contract, build your next job search into your calendar at least 90 days before the end date so you're not racing the clock.
Can my employer file H-1B for a Project Assistant role that's mostly remote?
Yes, but the employer must file an LCA that lists every location where you'll work for more than 30 days in a year. If the project takes you to multiple client sites, each site may need to be listed separately with its own prevailing wage certification. Confirm with your employer's legal team how they handle multi-site or fully remote LCA filings before you accept an offer.
What wage level should a Project Assistant H-1B petition use?
DOL assigns prevailing wages across four levels based on experience, supervision, and complexity. Most entry-level Project Assistant roles fall at Level I or II. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage for your occupation code and work location before signing your offer letter. An employer who files at Level I for a role with Level II responsibilities risks a DOL audit.
