Verify your degree aligns with job requirements
USCIS requires your degree field to match the specialty occupation. A business administration or HR degree supports most Talent Coordinator petitions, but a general studies degree may trigger an RFE. Review the O*NET profile for this role before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Talent Coordinator roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation. LCA history confirms an employer understands the H-1B process and has cleared the DOL wage certification step before.
Confirm the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Run the OFLC Wage Search using the correct SOC code for Talent Coordinator in your metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage, and a mismatch discovered late can stall or derail your petition.
Ask whether the employer files cap-exempt petitions
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations can file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap. Internal talent teams at these organizations hire Talent Coordinators and can sponsor year-round without waiting for the April lottery window.
Time your job search around the H-1B lottery calendar
USCIS opens H-1B registrations each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, secure an offer with enough lead time for your employer to register you. A 60-day grace period applies if your OPT expires before October 1.
Document your HR coordination experience precisely
Prepare a detailed experience letter from previous employers that maps your day-to-day duties to degree-level HR functions. Vague job descriptions are a common RFE trigger for Talent Coordinator petitions because USCIS scrutinizes whether the role truly requires a bachelor's degree.
H-1B Visa Talent Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Talent Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer structures the role. USCIS requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as human resources, organizational psychology, or business administration. Talent Coordinator roles that primarily involve administrative scheduling may face RFEs, while those tied to workforce planning or HR systems are stronger candidates. Your job description and employer documentation carry significant weight in the adjudication.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for Talent Coordinators?
Large technology companies, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and consulting firms with dedicated HR functions are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. These employers already have established immigration counsel and file LCAs routinely. Migrate Mate lets you search Talent Coordinator openings filtered by employers who have active DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can focus your applications where sponsorship is already in place.
Can my employer file an H-1B petition for a Talent Coordinator role if I'm currently on OPT?
Yes, and the timing matters. Your employer needs to register you in the H-1B lottery each March for an October 1 start date. If your OPT end date falls before October 1, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization through September 30, provided your employer filed your petition on time. Confirm your OPT expiration date against the filing calendar before accepting an offer.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for a Talent Coordinator position?
The most important documents are a detailed job description that ties each duty to degree-level HR knowledge, your official transcripts showing a relevant field of study, and the certified Labor Condition Application. If your degree title doesn't match the role exactly, a credentials evaluation letter from a recognized evaluation service and a USCIS-compliant support letter from your employer explaining the degree requirement can help close that gap.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect Talent Coordinator H-1B petitions?
Your employer must pay you at least the DOL prevailing wage for the Talent Coordinator SOC code in your specific metropolitan area. This figure varies by location and experience level. You can look up the applicable wage using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer. If your offered salary falls below the prevailing wage, the LCA cannot be certified and your H-1B petition cannot move forward.
