Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Project Administrator
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the Project Administrator position. A business, engineering, or IT management degree strengthens your case. A general studies degree with no project management coursework creates RFE risk.
Check employer LCA history before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Administrator postings by verified DOL LCA filing history. This tells you which employers have actually sponsored this title before, not just which ones claim they're open to sponsorship.
Target industries with consistent H-1B filing patterns
Construction management, IT services, and healthcare systems file LCAs for Project Administrator roles most consistently. Prioritize employers in those sectors rather than spreading applications across industries with no H-1B track record for this title.
Request a prevailing wage determination early
Your employer must certify your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage before filing the LCA. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 11-3021 for Construction Managers or 15-1299 for IT Project Managers to confirm the wage level before offer negotiations.
Clarify the job duties in your offer letter
Generic offer letters listing only the title create specialty occupation challenges at USCIS. Get the duties section to specify degree-required tasks: budget oversight, cross-functional coordination, and deliverable tracking tied to your academic background.
Plan around the 60-day grace period when switching roles
If you're changing employers, your new H-1B must be filed before your current status ends. The 60-day grace period after job loss doesn't restart your work authorization. File as soon as you have a signed offer, not after onboarding.
H-1B Visa Project Administrator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Administrator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it isn't automatic. USCIS evaluates whether the specific position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Project Administrator roles in IT, construction, or healthcare with duties tied to a technical or business degree typically qualify. Generalist administrative roles with no degree requirement usually don't. The employer's job description and internal hiring standards are what USCIS scrutinizes.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Project Administrator jobs?
Employers in IT services, engineering firms, hospital systems, and large construction contractors file LCAs for Project Administrator roles most frequently. The best way to identify them is through DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data, which shows actual filing history by job title and employer. Migrate Mate surfaces this data so you can filter for employers who have sponsored this specific title.
What SOC code does a Project Administrator fall under for the LCA?
It depends on the industry. Construction-focused roles typically use SOC code 11-3021 (Construction Managers). IT project roles often fall under 15-1299 or 11-3021 depending on how the employer classifies the duties. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level, so confirming it with your employer before the LCA is filed affects your required salary and your H-1B petition's defensibility.
Can I use an O*NET profile to support my H-1B specialty occupation argument?
Yes. O*NET classifies Project Administrator duties under management and business operations, and it documents the typical education level required. Your employer's attorney can reference the O*NET occupation profile to support the specialty occupation argument if USCIS issues an RFE questioning whether the role requires a bachelor's degree. Pairing it with your employer's internal job posting and degree requirements strengthens the response.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Project Administrator contract ends early?
You have a 60-day grace period from your last day of employment to find a new H-1B sponsor, change to another valid status, or depart the U.S. You can't work during this window. If a new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period ends, you can begin work once USCIS receives the filing. Acting quickly matters because the 60-day window doesn't extend.
