H-1B Visa Calibration Technician Jobs
Calibration Technician roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as engineering technology, physics, or metrology. Employers in aerospace, defense, medical devices, and manufacturing regularly file LCAs for these roles. No lottery exemption exists, but cap-exempt employers like research institutions and universities can file year-round.

Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
H-1B approval for calibration roles hinges on whether your degree directly relates to the work. A degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or physics strengthens the specialty occupation argument. A general business or unrelated STEM degree may trigger a Request for Evidence from USCIS.
Target industries with consistent LCA filing histories
Aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, medical device companies, and defense contractors file LCAs for calibration roles regularly. Searching DOL LCA disclosure data by SOC code 17-3023 surfaces which employers have certified positions in this occupation and in which metro areas.
Search Migrate Mate for verified sponsoring employers
Filter your search on Migrate Mate by occupation to find employers with documented H-1B filing history for calibration and measurement roles. This cuts out guesswork and focuses your applications on companies that have already cleared the LCA certification step for similar positions.
Ask employers about cap-exempt filing options
National labs, university research centers, and nonprofits affiliated with research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition bypasses the annual lottery. If you're open to these settings, calibration roles at such organizations can be filed anytime without waiting for the April registration window.
Document your metrology credentials before the offer stage
Gather ISO 17025 training records, ASQ Certified Calibration Technician credentials, and any manufacturer-specific certifications before a job offer lands. Employers and their attorneys use these documents to build the specialty occupation argument in the I-129 petition, so having them ready shortens the filing timeline.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for calibration technicians in your metro area before negotiating, so you can confirm the offer clears the LCA requirement.

Find Calibration Technician JobsCalibration Technician H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Calibration Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. USCIS requires the job to normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific related field. Calibration roles tied to aerospace, semiconductor, or medical device standards often qualify when the employer documents that the work demands applied engineering or physics knowledge at the degree level, not just vocational training or an associate degree.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Calibration Technician roles most consistently?
Defense contractors, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor fabs, and medical device companies file LCAs for calibration roles with regularity because their quality systems require personnel who can maintain traceable measurement standards. You can verify which specific employers have filed for this SOC code by reviewing DOL LCA disclosure data or browsing filtered results on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Calibration Technician applicants?
If your target employer is a standard for-profit company, your petition enters the annual H-1B cap lottery, which USCIS runs each spring for an October 1 start date. Cap-exempt employers, including universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government research entities, can file outside the lottery window, which makes them worth targeting if your calibration experience fits their instrumentation needs.
What credentials strengthen an H-1B petition for a Calibration Technician position?
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering, or physics is the foundation. Beyond that, credentials like the ASQ Certified Calibration Technician designation, ISO 17025 auditor training, or manufacturer-specific calibration certifications help the employer's attorney argue that the role requires specialized theoretical knowledge, which is central to the specialty occupation determination USCIS applies.
How do I find out if a company has sponsored H-1B visas for Calibration Technician roles before?
DOL LCA disclosure files list every employer that has certified a Labor Condition Application by job title and SOC code, including the work location and wage level. Reviewing these files for SOC code 17-3023 shows you which companies have a track record of sponsoring this role. O*NET also provides the occupational profile that helps you align your job description language with what USCIS expects to see.
