H-1B Visa Product Engineer Jobs
Product Engineer roles sit squarely within H-1B visa specialty occupation criteria, requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field. Employers file the Labor Condition Application before your petition, certifying the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and worksite. No lottery exemptions exist for this role, so cap-subject registration each March is your entry point.

At Wahl Clipper, innovation isn't just an idea, it's something you can hold in your hand. As a Senior Product Engineer, you'll lead the development of the products that define our brand, from clippers and trimmers to next generation grooming solutions. You'll take ideas from concept to production, solving complex engineering challenges and turning customer needs into real, manufacturable products. This is a role for a hands-on technical leader who thrives on building, solving, improving, and bringing ideas to life.
This position may sit in the Sterling Headquarters location or our Rosemont, IL location.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead translation of VOC/user requirements into system and component engineering specifications; drive trade-off studies and decisions.
- Drive 3D CAD concept development and guide CAD Designers in design maturation, tolerance/fit strategy, and creation of production-ready 2D detailed drawings.
- Apply advanced engineering rigor, tools, and techniques (e.g., DFMEA, FEA, tolerance stack-up, reliability methods) to create, select, validate, and release robust product designs.
- Own and approve key engineering documentation including product specifications, BOMs, design reports, verification summaries, and technical justifications.
- Lead collaborative efforts with R&D and Electrical Engineering teams to identify and/or design the right blades, motors, PCBAs and batteries.
- Define verification strategy and lead prototype and product testing following DVP&R process, including electrical, performance, safety, reliability, and quality evaluations.
- Own engineering execution for Stage Gate deliverables, ensuring design maturity, documentation completeness, and readiness for each gate review.
- Lead complex technical problem solving using Lean/Six Sigma tools (e.g., DoE, 8D, 5 Why, A3), driving containment, root cause, corrective actions, and validation.
- Partner with manufacturing and suppliers to drive DFMDFA, and process capability improvements; lead supplier technical discussions to resolve design/manufacturing issues.
- Develop and drive risk mitigation plans for engineering deliverables (technical, schedule, cost, compliance), proactively escalating issues and aligning stakeholders to recovery plans.
- Lead and facilitate design reviews, technical reviews, and production release meetings; establish clear action items and ensure closure to confirm feasibility and production readiness.
- Support Manufacturing with development of tooling, equipment, fixtures, and gauges.
- Ensure product and process readiness to meet PPAP/quality requirements by partnering with Quality.
- Accountable for obtaining agency approvals such as UL, CE/EN by working with Compliance, and for integrating requirements into design and verification plans.
- International and domestic travel as necessary, up to 10%.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Product Engineer
Verify your SOC code before applying
Product Engineer roles can be classified under multiple SOC codes depending on the product domain. Check O*NET to confirm which code your target employers use, since the prevailing wage and LCA filing obligations differ by classification.
Pull employer LCA filings on Migrate Mate
Search Product Engineer LCA filing history by employer on Migrate Mate before you apply. Seeing which companies have filed for this exact role tells you who has an active H-1B pipeline, not just a careers page that says sponsorship is possible.
Request prevailing wage details upfront
Ask the recruiter which wage level the employer intends to certify on the LCA. A Level I or II wage can create compliance issues if your offer exceeds it. OFLC Wage Search lets you cross-check what the DOL expects for your SOC code and metro area.
Align your resume to degree-field requirements
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to the Product Engineer role. If your degree is in a tangential field, collect transcripts showing relevant coursework and prepare a degree equivalency analysis before the petition is filed.
Clarify worksite arrangements before the I-129 is filed
Remote or hybrid Product Engineer roles require the employer to post the LCA at every worksite where you'll work. Confirm your worksite address is finalized before the I-129 filing, since amending the petition later costs time and premium processing fees.
Use the 60-day grace period strategically
If your H-1B employment ends involuntarily, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period to find a new employer and file a transfer petition. Start outreach immediately rather than waiting, since the new employer's I-129 must be receipted before your grace period expires.
H-1B Visa Product Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Product Engineer positions meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard because they routinely require at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a directly related field. USCIS evaluates the specific job duties, not just the title, so your offer letter and the employer's petition support documents need to clearly connect your degree field to the day-to-day responsibilities of the role.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history for Product Engineer roles, so you can focus applications on companies that have actually sponsored this position rather than guessing from job postings. DOL LCA disclosure data is public, and filtering it by occupation code gives you a concrete list of employers with an active H-1B track record for this role type.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I switch Product Engineer jobs?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is received by USCIS, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B is valid and the new petition is non-frivolous. Your new employer files a fresh I-129 with a new LCA certified at the prevailing wage for your role and worksite location.
What happens if my Product Engineer role shifts to a different product domain mid-employment?
A material change in job duties, SOC code, or worksite can trigger an amended H-1B petition requirement. If your responsibilities shift significantly, your employer needs to file an amended I-129 with a new LCA reflecting the updated role. Failing to amend when the change is material creates compliance risk for both you and the employer at the time of renewal or green card filing.
Does the H-1B cap apply to all Product Engineer positions?
Most Product Engineer roles at private companies are cap-subject, meaning your employer must register you in the annual H-1B lottery each March. Cap-exempt employers include universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government research entities. If you're currently on OPT and your employer misses the registration window, you cannot start H-1B status until the following fiscal year's cap opens in October.
