Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation
USCIS requires a specific bachelor's degree or equivalent for H-1B approval. Cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or a related clinical sciences degree typically satisfies this. Get your foreign credentials evaluated before targeting employers so you can answer RFE-related questions upfront.
Target hospitals inside E-Verify networks
STEM OPT extensions require E-Verify enrollment, but even for standard H-1B transfers, E-Verify-enrolled hospital systems have established immigration infrastructure. Filtering your search to enrolled employers signals a smoother petition process for Cath Lab Tech roles specifically.
Search LCA filings by SOC code on Migrate Mate
Cath Lab Techs file under a specific SOC code in the DOL system. Use Migrate Mate to search verified LCA filing history by occupation code and identify which cardiac centers and health systems have actively sponsored this role, not just healthcare broadly.
Confirm the offered wage meets DOL prevailing wage
Before accepting an offer, run the offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search for your specific SOC code and geographic area. Cath Lab prevailing wages vary significantly by metro market, and a wage shortfall will block LCA certification before USCIS ever sees your petition.
Ask employers about cap-exempt filing status
University hospital systems and nonprofit research hospitals can often file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery cap. For Cath Lab roles in academic medical centers, cap-exempt status means your petition can be filed any time of year, removing the April lottery deadline entirely.
Start the transfer process before your current status expires
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new Cath Lab employer once the transfer petition is filed, not approved. File with enough lead time before your authorized end date to avoid a gap in lawful status if adjudication runs long.
H-1B Visa Cath Lab Tech: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cath Lab Tech role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, Cath Lab Tech positions qualify as H-1B specialty occupations when the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or a closely related clinical field. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation on both the degree requirement and the theoretical and practical application of that knowledge in the role. Positions that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are harder to support.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Cath Lab Tech positions?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and cardiac specialty hospitals are the most active H-1B sponsors for this role. You can verify actual filing history by searching Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by occupation code so you can see which employers have filed for Cath Lab or cardiovascular technology roles specifically, not just healthcare broadly.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Cath Lab employer mid-year?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 allows you to begin working for a new Cath Lab employer as soon as your transfer petition is filed with USCIS, provided your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained lawful status. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be approved before starting, which makes mid-contract transitions more practical in clinical settings.
What does the DOL prevailing wage requirement mean for my Cath Lab job offer?
Before filing your H-1B petition, your employer must certify through an LCA that your offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your specific occupation code and work location. You can check the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search. Wages vary by metro area and experience level, so an offer that clears the prevailing wage in one city may fall short in another.
Does my foreign cardiovascular technology degree qualify for H-1B purposes?
It can, but USCIS requires a credential evaluation confirming your foreign degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Organizations accredited by NACES or AICE perform these evaluations. A three-year degree from some countries may be found equivalent; others may not reach the bachelor's threshold without additional coursework or experience, so get the evaluation done early before committing to an employer timeline.
