H-1B Visa School Nurse Jobs
School Nurse roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. Most positions sit in public K-12 districts or private school networks, where employer willingness to file varies widely. Knowing which districts have active LCA filing history before you apply cuts your search time significantly.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a School Nurse
Verify your RN license transfers across states
H-1B approval depends partly on you holding a valid RN license in the state where the school is located. If you're relocating, start the endorsement process early. Nursing compact states streamline this, but non-compact states can add two to three months.
Target districts with prior LCA filing history
Most H-1B sponsorship for school nurses comes from larger public districts and private school networks, not individual schools. Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified LCA filing history so you're applying where sponsorship is already established practice.
Confirm the role meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Pull the O*NET profile for School Nurse to document that a BSN is the standard entry requirement. Attach this to your petition to preempt a Request for Evidence.
Request premium processing before the school year deadline
School districts hire on an academic calendar, and a delayed H-1B approval can cost you the role. Ask your prospective employer to file with premium processing so USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days, well ahead of the August start dates most districts require.
Understand how the prevailing wage applies to your county
School nurse wages vary sharply by district location and wage level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your SOC code in the specific county before negotiating your offer. The LCA must certify at least that wage level.
Check whether your district is E-Verify enrolled before signing
H-1B employers are required to participate in E-Verify. Many smaller districts are not enrolled and can't legally sponsor an H-1B without first completing enrollment, which adds weeks to the timeline. Confirm E-Verify status during the offer stage, not after.

Find School Nurse JobsSchool Nurse H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a School Nurse role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing as a standard entry requirement. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation on the role, not just the job title. Documenting that a BSN is the normal minimum for the specific district's posting strengthens the petition. The O*NET profile for School Nurse supports this classification.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for School Nurse positions?
Larger public school districts, private school networks, and charter management organizations are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for school nurses. Smaller single-school districts rarely sponsor because they lack in-house HR infrastructure for the filing process. Migrate Mate shows which employers have active LCA filing history for nursing roles so you can focus your applications where sponsorship already happens.
Does a school nurse need NCLEX to be H-1B eligible?
Yes. A valid, active RN license in the state where you'll work is required before USCIS will approve an H-1B for a school nurse role. If you passed NCLEX abroad or hold a license in a different state, you'll need to complete license endorsement for the destination state before or alongside the petition filing.
Can a school district file an H-1B petition mid-academic year?
Yes. Unlike the standard April cap-subject filing window, cap-exempt or already cap-counted H-1B holders can have petitions filed year-round. If you're transferring from another H-1B employer or changing status, the district can file at any point. The academic calendar does create practical urgency, so premium processing is common for mid-year or late-spring hires.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect school nurse hiring timelines?
Most school nurse H-1B petitions are cap-subject, meaning they're subject to the annual lottery with an October 1 start date. Districts hiring for the following school year need to register in March and file by June if selected. Missing the lottery means waiting a full year, which is why some districts prefer candidates already holding valid H-1B status from a prior employer.
