H-1B Visa Certified Diabetes Educator Jobs
Certified Diabetes Educator roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related health sciences field. Employers in hospital systems, endocrinology practices, and managed care organizations regularly file H-1B petitions for CDEs, making this one of the more sponsorship-accessible allied health titles.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Certified Diabetes Educator
Verify your CDE credential meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your role to demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for Certified Diabetes Educators and confirm your job description ties the credential directly to a health sciences or nursing degree field.
Target employers with existing diabetes program infrastructure
Hospital systems running accredited diabetes self-management education programs file H-1B petitions more predictably than outpatient clinics. Search Migrate Mate to filter for employers with active H-1B LCA filings in healthcare education roles.
Confirm prevailing wage tier before salary negotiations
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 21-1094 before accepting an offer so you know the floor your employer is legally required to meet.
Ask about cap-exempt status during employer outreach
Nonprofit hospitals, federally qualified health centers, and university-affiliated medical centers are often cap-exempt, meaning they can file your H-1B petition year-round without entering the lottery. Ask HR directly whether the entity qualifies before counting on April registration.
Prepare your credential documentation before the LCA stage
Your employer needs your NCLEX results, degree transcripts, and CDCES certificate before filing the Labor Condition Application with DOL. Having certified copies and credential evaluations ready shortens the gap between offer and petition filing by several weeks.
Understand the 60-day grace period when changing jobs
If your current H-1B ends or your employer withdraws sponsorship, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period to find a new employer and file an H-1B transfer. Your new CDE employer must file the transfer petition before that window closes to maintain your status.

Find Certified Diabetes Educator JobsCertified Diabetes Educator H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Certified Diabetes Educator role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies specialty occupation roles as those requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Certified Diabetes Educator positions typically require a degree in nursing, dietetics, pharmacy, or a related health sciences field, and the CDCES credential reinforces the degree-to-role connection that USCIS looks for when adjudicating the petition.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Certified Diabetes Educators?
Hospital systems with accredited diabetes self-management education programs, endocrinology group practices, managed care organizations, and federally qualified health centers are the most consistent sponsors. Nonprofit and university-affiliated medical centers are particularly useful targets because they're often cap-exempt, allowing year-round filing outside the annual lottery. Browse current openings on Migrate Mate to identify employers with active H-1B filing history in this role.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer loses its diabetes program accreditation?
If the program accreditation lapses and your employer restructures or eliminates the CDE role, your H-1B petition may no longer be supported by a valid specialty occupation position. You'd have the 60-day grace period USCIS provides to secure a new employer and initiate an H-1B transfer. Starting your job search before any formal program changes are announced protects your timeline.
How does the DOL prevailing wage apply to CDE roles across different settings?
The DOL sets prevailing wages by SOC code and geographic area, so a CDE in a rural outpatient clinic will have a different wage floor than one in a large urban hospital system. Your employer must certify in the LCA that your offered wage meets or exceeds that floor for your specific location. Use the OFLC Wage Search with SOC code 21-1094 to look up the exact requirement before your offer is finalized.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new CDE employer mid-status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can begin working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, without waiting for approval, as long as your prior H-1B was lawfully approved and you haven't fallen out of status. Your new employer must file before your current status ends or within the 60-day grace period if your prior position was eliminated.
