Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the CGO position. A business or marketing degree aligns cleanly, but an engineering or science background needs a clear narrative connecting it to growth strategy and revenue leadership.
Search LCA filings for CGO-level roles
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application filings by job title and SOC code before applying. Companies that have filed LCAs for VP of Growth or Chief Growth Officer positions in the past two years are your highest-probability targets.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
For STEM OPT holders transitioning to H-1B, your next employer must be E-Verify enrolled. Run employer checks before accepting interviews so you're not mid-process when you discover a company can't hire you under your current authorization.
Negotiate filing timing into your offer
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed for the April lottery. If you're getting offers in the fall or winter, negotiate a start date that aligns with an October 1 H-1B effective date so your employer files in March rather than asking you to start on a different status.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified H-1B sponsors
Search Migrate Mate to identify Chief Growth Officer employers with documented H-1B filing history. The platform surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by role and company so you're targeting employers who have already demonstrated sponsorship willingness for senior growth positions.
Document your specialty occupation evidence early
CGO roles sometimes draw RFEs because USCIS scrutinizes whether executive titles require a specific degree. Gather job postings, industry compensation surveys from O*NET, and peer company LCA filings showing the same role classified as a specialty occupation before your employer files I-129.
H-1B Visa Chief Growth Officer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Chief Growth Officer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, marketing, economics, or a related discipline. USCIS looks at whether the degree is a normal minimum for the role in the industry. CGO positions at growth-stage and enterprise companies typically meet this standard, but vaguely defined roles can draw a Request for Evidence.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Chief Growth Officer positions?
Technology companies, SaaS businesses, and high-growth startups are the most active H-1B sponsors for senior growth leadership roles. You can identify specific companies with verified filing history by searching Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL LCA data filtered by job title and employer so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness.
Can a Chief Growth Officer be sponsored for an H-1B if the role is fully remote?
Yes, but the employer must file a separate LCA for each state where you'll perform work. If you're working remotely from a different state than the employer's headquarters, USCIS and DOL require the prevailing wage to reflect your actual work location. Confirm your employer understands this requirement before the I-129 is filed.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm laid off from a CGO role?
You have a 60-day grace period after your last day of employment to find a new H-1B sponsor, transfer your petition, or change to another valid status. During that window you can't work, but you can negotiate and sign an offer. Your new employer needs to file an H-1B transfer petition before the grace period ends.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect my timeline for starting a Chief Growth Officer role?
Cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you're not already in H-1B status or exempt from the cap, your employer can't petition until the registration window opens in March. Plan job searches and offer negotiations at least six months ahead of your intended start date to align with this cycle.
