Map your degree to the specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires your degree field to align directly with the Client Relationship Manager role. A degree in marketing, finance, or business administration maps cleanly. A humanities or unrelated degree requires additional documentation showing how it connects to the specific position.
Search DOL LCA filings by occupation code
Client Relationship Manager filings appear under SOC code 11-2021 (Marketing Managers) or 13-1161 (Market Research Analysts) depending on how employers classify the role. Use the OFLC Wage Search to see which companies have filed LCAs for this title in your target metro.
Find verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by Client Relationship Manager roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history for this occupation. That filing history signals genuine sponsorship willingness, not just a job listing with sponsorship mentioned in the description.
Clarify the SOC code before your employer files
Ask your employer which SOC code they plan to use on the LCA before filing. The code affects the prevailing wage tier USCIS benchmarks your salary against. A misclassified code can trigger a Request for Evidence after the petition is submitted.
Prepare a specialty occupation justification memo
Client Relationship Manager is a borderline specialty occupation title because some employers fill it without requiring a degree. Document how your role requires specialized knowledge, and get your employer to confirm the degree requirement in the job description before the LCA is filed.
Time your offer acceptance around the H-1B cap calendar
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer in May or June, your employer can file for the following April lottery. Confirm your employer understands this 11-month gap before you resign from your current position.
H-1B Visa Client Relationship Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Client Relationship Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It qualifies when the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business, finance, marketing, or a related discipline. Roles where any bachelor's degree is accepted regardless of field are harder to defend as specialty occupations. Your employer's job description must explicitly state the degree requirement and field to support the H-1B petition.
Which industries most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Client Relationship Manager positions?
Financial services, enterprise software, management consulting, and investment banking firms file the most LCAs for relationship management roles. These industries typically require finance or business degrees and have established H-1B sponsorship processes. You can verify which specific employers have filed LCAs for this occupation by browsing Client Relationship Manager roles on Migrate Mate.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Client Relationship Manager role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can start working for a new employer once they file a new petition, as long as your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a similar specialty occupation. The new employer must file a new LCA and I-129 petition before your start date.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Your employer must certify on the LCA that your salary meets the prevailing wage for the Client Relationship Manager occupation in your work location. The prevailing wage is determined by the DOL using wage surveys. If the employer's internal pay band falls below the prevailing wage for your metro area, they must adjust your compensation before the LCA can be certified.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Client Relationship Manager role changes significantly after the petition is approved?
Material changes to your job duties, location, or employer entity can require an amended H-1B petition. Moving to a new worksite in a different metro area or taking on responsibilities outside the original scope of the approved petition triggers an amendment filing. Failing to file an amendment when required can jeopardize your status.
