Map your SOC code before applying
Data integration work typically maps to SOC 15-1252 (Software Developers) or 15-1243 (Database Architects). Confirm which code your target employer uses by checking past LCA filings, since your prevailing wage level depends on it.
Verify prevailing wage using OFLC Wage Search
Look up the wage level for your specific SOC code and metro area before negotiating. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage, and a Level I offer at a high-cost location can still clear the bar.
Target employers with E-Verify enrollment first
STEM-adjacent roles can qualify for a 24-month OPT extension, but only at E-Verify enrolled employers. Prioritize companies already enrolled to keep that option open while your H-1B petition is pending.
Find H-1B sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Data Integration Developer roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you're only applying where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
Clarify integration stack depth during offer negotiations
H-1B specialty occupation requires the role to demand a specific degree field. Ask hiring managers whether the job description references ETL tooling, data warehousing platforms, or API architecture, since vague postings invite USCIS requests for evidence.
File premium processing if your start date is fixed
USCIS premium processing upgrades adjudication to 15 business days. If you're joining mid-project or filling a contract gap, the faster timeline matters more than it does for open-ended roles where the employer can absorb delays.
H-1B Visa Data Integration Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Integration Developer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the job requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or software engineering. Roles focused on ETL pipeline development, API integration, or data warehouse architecture consistently meet the specialty occupation standard. Employers document this requirement in the LCA and I-129 petition. Vague job descriptions that accept any degree field are the most common trigger for USCIS requests for evidence.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for data integration roles?
Migrate Mate lets you search Data Integration Developer positions filtered by employers with active H-1B LCA filing history, so you can focus on companies that already sponsor rather than guessing during the application process. DOL LCA disclosure data is publicly available and updated quarterly, which is what this filtering relies on.
What SOC code applies to Data Integration Developer jobs for H-1B purposes?
Most data integration roles file under SOC 15-1252 (Software Developers) or SOC 15-1243 (Database Architects), depending on whether the work is primarily application-layer integration or data modeling. The SOC code your employer selects directly determines your prevailing wage level, so it's worth confirming which code they intend to use before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Can my employer switch my job duties after the H-1B is approved?
Material changes to your role, location, or employment terms may require an amended H-1B petition filed with USCIS before the changes take effect. Moving from integration development to a primarily management function, for example, can change the specialty occupation basis. A new work site in a different metro area also requires a new LCA certified for that location, even if the job title stays the same.
How does the H-1B cap lottery affect Data Integration Developer hiring timelines?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions have an October 1 start date, with registration opening in March. Employers file petitions in April for selected registrants, meaning a full six months can pass between registration and your first day. Some data integration employers hold cap-exempt status, such as nonprofits or universities, allowing them to file outside the lottery with no set start-date constraint. Check a prospective employer's entity type before assuming you'll face the lottery.
