Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Epic Systems Analyst
Verify your degree aligns with Epic roles
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the analyst role. A degree in health informatics, information systems, or computer science typically satisfies specialty occupation requirements. A general business degree alone may trigger an RFE.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Search LCA disclosure data through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm which health systems have filed for Epic-related roles. Employers with recent certified LCAs for systems analyst positions are already set up to sponsor, which shortens your timeline significantly.
Filter sponsor-verified jobs on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Epic Systems Analyst openings filtered by employers with documented H-1B filing history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who've never sponsored and connects you directly to active sponsors.
Get Epic module certifications before interviews
Employers filing H-1B petitions for Epic roles need to substantiate specialty occupation. Holding recognized Epic certifications in modules like Resolute, Cadence, or Beaker strengthens your petition's specialty occupation case and differentiates you during employer screening.
Confirm the employer's E-Verify enrollment status
H-1B employers are required to use E-Verify. Before investing time in an application process, confirm the hiring organization is enrolled. Large health systems typically are, but smaller Epic consulting firms or regional practices may not be.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap timing
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your earliest possible start date is October 1 of the fiscal year following the lottery. Build this into offer negotiations early so the employer doesn't expect an immediate start USCIS can't accommodate.
H-1B Visa Epic Systems Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Epic Systems Analyst roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations?
Yes. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Epic Systems Analyst positions typically require degrees in health informatics, computer science, or information systems, and involve complex clinical workflow configuration that supports the specialty occupation standard. Roles focused purely on help desk or basic end-user support may face more scrutiny.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Epic analysts?
The most consistent H-1B sponsors for Epic roles are large integrated health systems, academic medical centers, and Epic implementation consulting firms. These organizations run multi-year Epic deployments that require sustained analyst staffing, which makes long-term H-1B sponsorship practical for them. Smaller community hospitals or single-specialty practices sponsor far less frequently. You can browse employers with verified H-1B filing history for these roles on Migrate Mate.
Can I switch Epic modules or specializations after my H-1B is approved?
Your H-1B is tied to the specific role and duties described in the LCA and I-129 petition. If your responsibilities shift significantly, such as moving from an inpatient analyst role to a revenue cycle focus, your employer may need to file an amended petition. Minor adjustments within the same job classification are generally permissible, but a formal title or duties change that materially alters the role typically requires an amendment.
Does Epic certification affect H-1B petition strength?
Epic certifications aren't required by USCIS, but they do support the specialty occupation argument in a meaningful way. Petitions that demonstrate module-specific technical expertise through credentialing are easier for employers to defend if USCIS issues an RFE questioning whether the role requires specialized knowledge. Certifications in modules like Clarity, Caboodle, or Willow also signal to employers that the position goes beyond generalist IT work.
What happens to my H-1B status if the Epic project I was hired for ends?
If your employer terminates your employment before your H-1B period ends, you have a 60-day grace period under USCIS rules to find a new sponsoring employer, transfer your H-1B, or take another status action. Epic project-based roles at consulting firms carry this risk more than permanent positions at health systems. Identifying a new employer willing to file an H-1B transfer petition within that window is the most common resolution.
