Align your degree to the SOC code
Demand Planner positions file under SOC code 13-1081 (Logisticians) or 15-2051 (Data Scientists). Confirm your degree field directly maps to whichever code your target employer uses, since a mismatch is a common RFE trigger for this role.
Pull LCA filings before applying
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B LCA filing history for demand planning roles. This shows you which companies have sponsored the position before, so you spend your applications on employers already familiar with the process.
Request the prevailing wage tier upfront
Demand Planner salaries span four DOL wage levels. Ask recruiters which level the employer intends to certify on the LCA before accepting an offer. Level I or II can affect your negotiating position and signals how the employer benchmarks the role.
Document forecasting tools and methodologies
USCIS adjudicators look for evidence that the role requires specialized, theoretical knowledge. Gather project documentation showing you applied statistical forecasting models, ERP systems, or demand sensing tools that directly required your degree-level training.
Target STEM-adjacent employers for cap-exempt options
Demand Planner openings at universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government contractors can qualify as cap-exempt H-1B positions. These employers can file outside the annual lottery, giving you a sponsorship path if you weren't selected in registration.
File premium processing for offer-deadline conflicts
Standard H-1B adjudication can take several months. If your offer letter includes a start date that falls close to October 1, ask your employer to use USCIS premium processing to get a decision within 15 business days and avoid start-date complications.

Find Demand Planner JobsDemand Planner H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Demand Planner role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Demand Planner qualifies when the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations research, statistics, or a directly related field. The key is that the degree must be a genuine minimum requirement for the specific role, not just a preference. Employers listing the position as open to any business degree without field specificity can face RFEs from USCIS.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Demand Planner positions?
Consumer packaged goods, retail, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and automotive supply chain are the industries with the most consistent H-1B LCA filing history for Demand Planner roles. Technology companies with hardware or device supply chains also file regularly. You can verify which specific employers have filed for this role using Migrate Mate, which surfaces LCA data by occupation and industry.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Demand Planner job seekers?
Most Demand Planner roles at private companies fall under the annual H-1B cap, meaning your petition enters the lottery each April for an October 1 start. If you aren't selected, you'd need to wait until the next registration cycle. Employers at qualifying nonprofit research organizations or universities can file cap-exempt petitions, bypassing the lottery entirely.
What documents should I prepare before asking an employer to sponsor my H-1B?
Prepare your academic transcripts showing a degree in a field directly related to demand planning, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., and documentation of any specialized certifications such as APICS CPIM or CSCP. You should also compile work samples or project summaries that demonstrate you've applied degree-level analytical methods, since USCIS may request evidence of specialty occupation duties.
Can I switch Demand Planner jobs while on an H-1B without losing status?
Yes, under H-1B portability provisions in AC21, you can move to a new employer in a same or similar occupational classification once your current petition has been approved and you've been in valid H-1B status. Your new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your existing status expires. You're authorized to start the new role as soon as the transfer petition is received by USCIS, not just approved.
