H-1B Visa Finance Intern Jobs
Finance Intern roles can qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. Employers filing an LCA must certify the role meets specialty occupation standards, so internships structured around degree-specific analytical work carry stronger sponsorship eligibility than general administrative ones.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B specialty occupation requires a direct connection between your degree and the finance intern position. A finance or economics degree supports it clearly; a general business degree may trigger an RFE if the role description is too broad.
Check employer LCA filings before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm a company has filed Labor Condition Applications for finance or accounting intern roles. Prior LCA activity signals an employer has navigated the DOL process before and understands what sponsoring an intern involves.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter for finance intern roles on Migrate Mate to find employers with confirmed H-1B sponsorship history. This saves time by surfacing companies that have already demonstrated willingness to file for entry-level finance positions.
Confirm the internship is a qualifying specialty occupation
Review the O*NET profile for your target role code to document degree requirements. Internships with duties like financial modeling, variance analysis, or regulatory reporting align more reliably with specialty occupation standards than generalist administrative tasks.
Ask HR whether cap-exempt filing is available
Internships hosted at universities, nonprofits, or government research organizations may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing, bypassing the annual lottery. Confirm the employer's institutional status early since this changes your entire sponsorship timeline.
Negotiate filing timing before accepting the offer
H-1B petitions for cap-subject employers must be filed for an October 1 start date. Clarify with your hiring manager whether the internship start date aligns with USCIS's fiscal year cycle or whether a cap-exempt path is being used.
H-1B Visa Finance Intern: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Finance Intern position qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like finance, accounting, or economics. The key test is whether the position is a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Internships built around degree-specific work, such as financial analysis, budgeting, or audit support, are more likely to qualify than broad administrative roles.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for Finance Intern roles?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for finance positions before. You can also cross-reference employer names against DOL's OFLC disclosure data to confirm prior LCA filings in relevant occupation codes.
Does an internship count toward H-1B cap registration?
Yes, cap-subject internships count toward the annual H-1B lottery, which means the position must have an October 1 start date and the employer must submit a registration during USCIS's March registration window. Cap-exempt employers, such as universities and qualifying nonprofits, can file outside that window, which is why employer type matters when evaluating internship offers.
What happens to my H-1B status if the internship ends before a full-time offer?
If your employer terminates the H-1B before the approved period ends, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period to find new sponsorship, change status, or depart the U.S. Finance interns should confirm before starting whether the employer intends to extend or convert the role, since an internship H-1B does not automatically transfer to a subsequent position.
What wage level should a Finance Intern H-1B LCA show?
Most entry-level finance intern roles file at DOL wage Level I, which reflects positions requiring basic understanding of the occupation. However, USCIS scrutinizes LCAs where the prevailing wage seems inconsistent with actual duties. Verify the wage level your employer plans to certify by checking the OFLC Wage Search for the relevant Standard Occupational Classification code and geographic area.
