H-1B Visa Summer Associate Jobs
Summer Associate roles at law firms, consulting groups, and financial institutions regularly sponsor H-1B visas, but timing matters: most programs run 10 to 12 weeks, and H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for employment starting October 1. Understanding how your summer converts to a full-time offer shapes your H-1B strategy.

Job Description
Are you passionate about finance but equally obsessed with the power of Artificial Intelligence? We are seeking a highly motivated FP&A Summer Associate to join our team in San Mateo and spearhead our finance automation initiatives.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in impactful projects that help to drive and shape the way FP&A operates. You will not only crunch numbers and create reports, but you will also act as the bridge between finance and technology. You will partner with our FP&A managers to map out existing workflows across our primary financial systems (NetSuite, Workday HCM, and Workday Adaptive Planning) and design AI-driven solutions to automate repetitive tasks, enhance data accuracy, and generate predictive insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Mapping & System Optimization: Analyze and document current FP&A workflows within NetSuite, Workday, and Adaptive Planning to identify bottlenecks, manual data-entry points, and areas for automation.
- AI Integration & Automation: Research, test, and implement AI tools (e.g., LLMs, Microsoft Copilot, custom Python scripts, or RPA) to streamline data extraction and consolidation across our financial stack.
- Proof of Concept (PoC) Development: Build and present working prototypes of automated financial models or dashboards that reduce manual processing time for month-end reporting and variance analysis.
- Prompt Engineering & Data Querying: Develop optimized prompts and queries to extract actionable financial insights from large datasets pulled from our ERP and EPM systems using Generative AI tools.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with FP&A, Investor Relations, Accounting, Data/IT, and other cross-functional teams to ensure automated solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant with financial controls.
- Strategic Support: Assist the FP&A and Investor Relations team with ad-hoc financial modeling, close activities, market benchmarking, competitive analysis and preparation of executive dashboards to understand the foundation of the process you are automating.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
- Strong foundational understanding of core finance concepts (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis).
- Proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets and a strong willingness to push beyond traditional spreadsheets.
- A fundamental understanding of Generative AI, Machine Learning concepts, or robotic process automation (RPA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with enterprise financial systems, specifically NetSuite, Workday, or Workday Adaptive Planning, is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience using APIs (e.g., OpenAI API) or building custom scripts to parse financial data from ERP/EPM systems.
- Curiosity and a "hacker" mindset. You love figuring out how to make software do the heavy lifting for you.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical AI/automation concepts to non-technical finance professionals.
What You Will Gain:
- Real-World Impact: Your projects will directly reduce manual hours for the Freshworks finance team, and your solutions may be adopted permanently.
- Skill Development: Hands-on experience at the intersection of enterprise finance tools (NetSuite/Workday/Adaptive) and SaaS AI.
- Mentorship: Direct access to senior finance leadership and data science experts who will guide your professional development.
Additional Information
Please note this is a paid, full-time (40 hours/week), fixed-term Associate internship running from June through September. This is a hybrid role with onsite expectations of 3x/week (Tuesday - Thursday) from our San Mateo, CA headquarters.
The hourly pay range for this position is $25 - $30/ hour.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Summer Associate
Verify your SOC code before applying
Summer Associate roles span law, finance, and consulting, each mapped to a different Standard Occupational Classification code. Pull the O*NET profile for your target role to confirm it meets the specialty occupation definition USCIS requires before you apply.
Target employers with E-Verify enrollment
If your OPT runs through your summer program, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to extend your STEM OPT. Check E-Verify enrollment status before accepting an offer, not after, so you don't lose authorization mid-program.
Map your timeline to the H-1B cap window
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start. If your Summer Associate program converts to a full-time offer in August, your employer has a narrow window to file. Confirm the firm's H-1B filing calendar during the offer stage.
Search verified sponsors on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Summer Associate postings by employers with active H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. This surfaces firms that have sponsored roles in your target practice area, so you're not guessing who will file.
Request the prevailing wage level at offer
Ask your recruiting contact which DOL wage level the LCA will use. Summer Associates are frequently slotted at Level I or II. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check whether the offered rate meets the prevailing wage for your metro area and SOC code.
Clarify cap-exempt status for academic employers
Summer Associates at universities, teaching hospitals, or affiliated nonprofits may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B sponsorship, which bypasses the lottery entirely. Ask USCIS's cap-exempt criteria to your recruiter if your placement has an academic or research component.

Find Summer Associate JobsSummer Associate H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Summer Associate role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the position meets the specialty occupation standard, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Most Summer Associate roles in law, finance, and management consulting qualify. The employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then a petition with USCIS before your employment start date.
What happens to my H-1B if my Summer Associate offer converts to full-time?
Your employer must file a new H-1B petition for the full-time role, even if you worked there as a Summer Associate. The summer internship does not carry over as H-1B authorization. If you're on OPT during the summer, cap-gap protection may bridge your status if registration is selected and the petition is pending on October 1.
Do all law firms and consulting firms sponsor H-1B visas for Summer Associates?
Not all firms have a standing policy to sponsor, and some only sponsor after a full-time offer is extended. Sponsorship practice varies by firm size, practice group, and whether the role requires specific technical credentials. Use Migrate Mate to identify firms with documented H-1B LCA filing history for roles matching your background before you apply.
Is a Summer Associate position cap-exempt from the H-1B lottery?
Only if the employer qualifies as cap-exempt, such as a university, nonprofit research organization, or government research entity. Most private law firms, banks, and consulting firms are cap-subject, meaning your petition must be selected in the annual lottery. Cap-exempt employers can file year-round without lottery participation, which is worth asking about during recruiting.
How long before my Summer Associate start date does the H-1B petition need to be filed?
For cap-subject petitions, USCIS only accepts filings up to six months before the requested start date of October 1, so the earliest filing window opens April 1. For cap-exempt employers, there's no fixed window, but earlier filing reduces risk. USCIS standard processing currently runs several months, so premium processing is common when timing is tight.
