Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Forensic Analyst
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree directly relates to forensic analysis. A chemistry or biology degree supports a wet-lab forensics role, but a general science degree may trigger an RFE. Confirm the match before applying.
Search LCA filings for forensic employers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application filings by SOC code 19-4092 for Forensic Science Technicians. This shows you exactly which employers have filed for this role before, signaling real sponsorship history.
Target cap-exempt employers first
University-affiliated crime labs, nonprofit research institutes, and federal contractors attached to cap-exempt entities can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. Prioritizing these employers removes lottery timing risk from your job search entirely.
Find H-1B sponsoring forensic employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate for Forensic Analyst roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B filing history. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to labs that have never sponsored a visa.
Negotiate petition filing before your start date
H-1B petitions can be filed up to six months before your intended start date, but only for an October 1 start or after lottery selection. Confirm your employer's HR and legal timeline early so filing doesn't delay your onboarding.
Document specialized certifications for the LCA
Credentials like ASCLD accreditation familiarity, digital forensics certifications, or chain-of-custody training strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your I-129. Gather these before your employer's attorney begins the petition package.

Find Forensic Analyst JobsForensic Analyst H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Forensic Analyst role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology, criminal justice, or a closely related field. USCIS evaluates the job duties and degree requirement together. Roles at accredited crime labs or cybersecurity firms with degree requirements tied to specific technical disciplines consistently meet the specialty occupation standard.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Forensic Analysts?
Federal agencies, state and county crime laboratories, private cybersecurity and e-discovery firms, and university research labs all file H-1B petitions for forensic roles. Cap-exempt employers such as university-affiliated labs can file outside the lottery. You can browse employers with verified H-1B filing history for this role on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Forensic Analyst job seekers?
The annual H-1B cap covers most private-sector employers, with registration typically opening in March each year. If you're not selected, your employer can't file a petition for a cap-subject position until the next cycle. Targeting cap-exempt employers, including nonprofit research labs and universities, lets you sidestep the lottery entirely.
What SOC code applies to Forensic Analyst roles for H-1B purposes?
The DOL assigns SOC code 19-4092 to Forensic Science Technicians, which covers most laboratory-based forensic roles. Digital forensics and cybersecurity-focused analysts may fall under different SOC codes depending on the job duties described in the LCA. Confirming the correct SOC code with your employer's attorney affects the prevailing wage level used in your petition.
Can a Forensic Analyst use the H-1B grace period between jobs?
Yes. If your H-1B employment ends, USCIS provides a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer and have a transfer petition filed. During a job search in this window, you can't work, but the transfer petition can include a request for premium processing to accelerate USCIS review before your grace period expires.
