H-1B Visa Functional Analyst Jobs
Functional Analyst roles qualify as H-1B visa specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field. Employers file the Labor Condition Application before your petition, certifying the prevailing wage for your specific work location. No lottery exemptions apply, but cap-exempt employers like universities and nonprofits can sponsor year-round.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Functional Analyst
Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires a direct-field connection between your degree and the Functional Analyst position. A business analysis or information systems degree aligns cleanly. A general business degree may trigger an RFE, so prepare a course-by-course credential evaluation before applying.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to benchmark pay
Look up the prevailing wage for Functional Analyst under SOC code 15-1212 at your target work location before negotiating an offer. Your employer's LCA must certify at least that wage level, so knowing it prevents surprises during filing.
Target employers with cap-exempt status first
Universities, university-affiliated research organizations, and qualifying nonprofits can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. Functional Analyst roles in higher education IT and research settings are a direct path to sponsorship without waiting for an April registration window.
Search Migrate Mate for verified LCA filing history
Filter Functional Analyst roles on Migrate Mate by employers who have active LCA filings in your target city. This surfaces companies with a documented history of sponsoring this specific occupation, not just general H-1B filers.
Clarify remote work arrangements before the LCA is filed
If your role includes any remote work outside the certified work location, your employer must file a new LCA or an amended I-129. Raise this before the petition is submitted, not after, to avoid costly amendments or compliance violations.
Request premium processing when your start date is fixed
USCIS adjudicates I-129 petitions under premium processing within 15 business days. If your employer has a project-driven start date or you're transferring from another visa status, premium processing reduces the risk of gaps in authorized employment.
H-1B Visa Functional Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Functional Analyst role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, Functional Analyst positions qualify when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as information systems, computer science, or business analysis. USCIS evaluates both the job duties and the degree requirement stated in the offer letter. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are harder to defend as specialty occupations, so the job description matters.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Functional Analyst positions?
Employers across enterprise software, healthcare IT, financial services, and government contracting regularly file LCAs for Functional Analyst roles. Cap-exempt organizations, including universities and nonprofit research institutions, can file outside the lottery. Migrate Mate filters Functional Analyst openings by verified LCA filing history, so you can identify active sponsors by location and industry without guessing.
What SOC code does USCIS use for Functional Analyst H-1B petitions?
Most Functional Analyst roles are filed under SOC code 15-1212, Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, or 13-1111, Management Analysts, depending on job duties. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage tier your employer must certify on the LCA. Misalignment between job duties and SOC code is a common RFE trigger, so confirm the code with your employer before the LCA is submitted to DOL.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Functional Analyst role at a different employer?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a non-frivolous I-129 transfer petition, provided your current H-1B was lawfully approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a fresh LCA for your new work location and role before submitting the petition to USCIS.
How does remote work affect H-1B sponsorship for Functional Analyst roles?
Each work location where you perform services must be covered by a certified LCA. If you work remotely from a city not listed on your original LCA, your employer is required to file an amended I-129 with a new LCA covering that location. This applies even for short-term assignments. Confirm your work location details with your employer's immigration counsel before any remote arrangement begins.
