Align your degree to the role
Growth Lead positions require a direct-field degree match for H-1B specialty occupation status. A marketing, economics, or data analytics degree maps cleanly. A general business degree works if your coursework included quantitative methods or consumer behavior.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for growth or marketing roles. Employers with active LCA history have already cleared DOL's prevailing-wage certification process and are operationally ready to sponsor.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your SOC code and target metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the applicable level, so knowing the floor before you negotiate prevents offer complications later.
Confirm cap-exempt status if targeting nonprofits or universities
Growth roles at qualifying nonprofits, government research organizations, or universities are cap-exempt. Those employers can file your H-1B petition any time of year, bypassing the April lottery entirely and giving you a faster, more predictable path to status.
Time your job search around the April registration window
USCIS opens H-1B electronic registration each March for a roughly two-week window. Your employer must register you before filing the full petition. Starting your search in January gives you enough runway to secure an offer and complete the registration in time.
Document your growth metrics before the petition
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for marketing and growth titles more than for engineering roles. Prepare a job duties letter with your employer that ties your responsibilities to a specific academic discipline, supported by the O*NET occupation profile for your role.
H-1B Visa Growth Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Growth Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as marketing, business analytics, or economics. USCIS looks at whether the degree requirement is standard across the industry for that role. Vaguely defined growth titles with no clear degree requirement can draw a Request for Evidence, so the job duties letter your employer submits with the I-129 petition is critical.
How do I find Growth Lead employers who are already set up to sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Growth Lead openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. Companies that have already navigated the DOL certification and USCIS petition process are far more likely to move quickly once they decide to hire, reducing the risk of delays that could affect your status timeline.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm between Growth Lead jobs?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new sponsoring employer, file for a change of status, or prepare to depart. If a new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before your grace period expires, you can begin work upon filing receipt under portability rules, without waiting for USCIS approval.
Can a startup sponsor my H-1B for a Growth Lead role?
Yes, but early-stage startups face additional scrutiny because USCIS evaluates whether the employer has the financial ability to pay the prevailing wage. Startups should be prepared to provide financial statements, funding documentation, or investor letters alongside the I-129 petition. If the company is incorporated and paying employees, sponsorship is legally viable regardless of size.
Does my Growth Lead role need to match the SOC code on the Labor Condition Application exactly?
The LCA must list a Standard Occupational Classification code that accurately reflects your actual job duties. Common matches for Growth Lead roles include Marketing Managers or Market Research Analysts, depending on whether your work is strategy-focused or analytics-focused. A mismatch between your day-to-day duties and the LCA's SOC code can create compliance exposure for your employer during a DOL audit.
